Let's be honest - who disliked and/or was repulsed by the Cybertruck when they first saw it?

I'm really curious about why people don't like the Cybertruck design. I've heard people give reasons but I can't begin to think of this design as ugly, it's very very different and I think that's what throws people off. There are a lot of cars I don't like for many reasons but the design isn't usually my biggest problem with them, unless we are talking about a Fiat Multipla. While I certainly prefer many designs over others, I don't usually hate a design (except Fiat Multipia).
Trucks have been around since 1917, I have had trucks for over 40 years of my life, it's how I grew up not saying it was ugly just not what I expected but I can see the beauty in it now. I am sure someone is going ask me "what is it"?

I was clueless, had heard of Cybertruck once or twice in passing, and then there it was, I wasn't sure what it was, but as soon as I saw stainless steel, I thought of was a great idea the Delorean was, and how I kind of always wanted one, but it's pretty obsolete by now. But this? Wow. I had toyed with the idea of a BEV before, but not too seriously. I thought about it for two days, wanting it more every time I looked at it, by Saturday, two days later, I pulled the trigger. My number is like 216,000. Yes, I am obsessed. But never, ever did I think it was ugly. It's the most handsome piece of machinery I've ever seen.

I immediately thought Lamborghini Countach - and was sold!
I also came to this conclusion. If Lamborghini made a truck it would look like this. But I don’t want to drive a Lamborghini truck. I am NOT a person who wants to be seen or stand out. Again, for me it’s the function of it that won me over. I’ll deal with the looks for that.

I was watching the reveal on YouTube live, when it came out I, like many, thought.... Elons trolling us, it's a joke...the real truck will be revealed soon.

And I thought it was just so ugly! Now, I still think its not good looking but I dont buy stuff for looks, and I dont want to stand out either.
it seems like alot of truck for the money, but I'm still on the fence for alot of reasons. One being the range for single motor isn't very good for $40k anymore, the equation is shifting quickly since more companies are going all in on evs, i think tesla is finally losing their "we did it first" place. I know it dosnt directly compare because it's a big truck vs a commuter car but one can get a lightly used 2020 leaf or bolt for $25-30k with 250-300 miles of range.

I hated it. A lot. For the first day, then It changed for me. Like a lot of other people

And I was really pissed about the Hey OJ- try on the gloves moment with the broken windows.

but in true Elon fashion, he dodged all the negative press on it and turned it into a positive.

I was comparing the CT to other BEVs, a new Chevy Bolt starts at $37K and has 260 miles of range and no where the features that a CT has for $40K. IMO Its the most bang for buck of any EV on the road

IMO even if you don't need a truck the CT is the one to own as long as you are not hung up about the looks

Hey Newton, are you single? The reason I ask is because your explanation makes a lot of sense for a single person. CT is not all that functional for a single person. I think you are correct also that the used EV market may be affected by the release of all these new EV's coming out in the near future. EV's are kinda like large cell phones and people will want the latest greatest. If you don't get stuck in that mindset, you could score a great deal on a vehicle that works for you. Maybe even a used Model Y could be more reasonable in 2 years, with all the demand for new toys.

Being youngish with no family, and not wealthy.
im sure my situation is quit different than most buyers. I totally understand I'm probably like 2% of potential buyers. Just another person's take on things.

Yeah, next vehicle has to be a truck or truck compatible. I don't have the space to store a collection of trailers! That makes the calculation different.

And Tesla has always jiggered with battery size to stay competitive: See also the announced packs for the Model 3 and what they eventually came out with.

That's a common reason a lot of people don't get a Truck, or some people with trucks will still have a car. The Cybertruck will have up to 500m range but that's because of the battery size, while smaller cars will get more range with the same Kwh charge. My truck in it's prime could easily drive further than my car but the gas tank is double.

If the money is too tight to be committing to a Cybertruck, and you don't need a truck or at least not need a truck more than once every month or two where a rental would easily do, it might be a good idea to explore other options. You can always buy a Cybertruck in the future.

My college daughter, home for Christmas told me I needed one of these because my Suburbans were too big, fuel hogs, the Cybertruck would self drive and could be charged from our 72 panel solar system. She mentioned that if I wasn't up to the task she would be. Within 10 minutes I placed my order. It's been updated to 3 motors and FSD.

I was a bit shocked, but loved it.

Reserved it immediately.
