A company is going to be building an RV that has its own battery and drivetrain, which will enable it to minimize or eliminate the range loss due to towing.

I’ve talked about this method before on these forums, it is awesome to see someone doing it. Just wish the price wasn’t so high!

Everything has a Niche.

With recharge stations every 50k (or miles) , I can't see why I have to cart 80KW around with me. If I'm driving a few hours already, a 30 minute rest (and recharge) is not out of my normal plan.

I don't see out of bounds situations lugging this big thing around, so recharge stations are within its reasonable vicinity.

Then there's the design... doesn't suit me.

Legacy has terrible towing capacity... but it's early days.

The more time goes on, the more redundant an option. imo.

I don’t know where you live, but anywhere worth camping near here has no charging for hundreds of miles. My parents would not be able to tow their RV with an EV.

A 4WD can reach places where an RV can't. I am only talking about places where the RV depicted in the proposal is likely to go.

Over the coming maybe say 5 years, there will be a network of chargers within easy reach of where we expect to take an RV.

Loaded RV will go the way of video shops. imo

Considering they are not even out yet, I strongly disagree. A battery powered, solar charged RV is very worth it to most people simply due to the convenience.

You also underestimate the benefit of a drive motor on the trailer. From a driving experience and safety standpoint, once people start pulling a powered trailer they aren’t going to want to pull anything else.

You also underestimate how many people are out there like my family. We do not stop unless we are out of gas, and we would prefer to go as long as possible before stopping. Same with an EV. If I can go 1100 miles and stop 2 or 3 times instead of 12, I’m going to purchase that product.

We do not stop unless we are out of gas, and...
Admitting you have a problem is the first step. Think of your childrens' bladders, and how safely you must be driving without a rest?

Tesla's teased trailer is likely truly vaporware...
It can't be vaporware unless they're attempting to sell it. Showing a tease or a use case is not 'vaporware'.

Where's that?

1) Don’t have kids

2) My normal commute is 100 miles. Road trips are not a big deal.
3) the Midwest

Tesla Cybertruck Lightship L1, revolutionary new RV eliminates towing loss Tesla-Supercharger-Ma

Tesla Supercharger Network from 9 months ago. This doesn't include 3rd-party CCS charging.

In 2022, Tesla installed more than 1,200 new stations (almost 11,000 individual stalls).

Then why do you need the extra seats?

Your commute is 5x the average. Also, irrelevant to the topic.

I asked where. That's not a place. Find me a pin on the map.

A starting price of $125,000 for the L1 can be brought down to $118,400 after available tax credits and can be reserved with a $500 deposit. Production is expected to begin in late 2024.
All they have is a render, no prototype and no manufacturing history (I know they worked at Tesla), I doubt they can start production in less than 2 years.

They are fishing for a big customer roster so they can secure VC money or a loan. Then they can start on a prototype and maybe build a factory. Unless maybe they outsource the build.

Nitpicking. The concept does not eliminate range loss due to towing. The concept offsets the loss.
