All the interactions I have had with people (I talked to about 200 people) most loved the truck, a few were indifferent, they were just curious and wanted to ask what it was. But no one in person said anything negative about the Cybertruck.

However, online it is totally different. A get a ton of negative comments about the Cybertruck. ?‍

Yup. The internet is rife with paid shills and paid trolls. It's a real industry with lots of money feeding it. That said, my wife hates the CT. She has been trying to convince me to abandon my order since I made my reservation. However, her real issue with it is how she perceives others view it - not the actual merits of the vehicle.

my life is exactly the same. She said need to get the windows tinted dark so she won’t be seen in it. Solely worried about people thinking poorly of who ever would own such a thing. The higher profile digs, see Adam Drivers opening SNL song, cemented it. I keep trying to tell her that’s not folks real world experience…. She will have to learn the hard way lol.

My experience exactly. I got one rolling coal on my Chicago road trip (2200 miles) plus I know about one of my friends who expressed his opinion that he does not like it, but on the other hand it attracts lots of attention, people taking videos and photos during drives and stops and it makes people smile. The response is overhelmingly positive.

The industry saying this is what people want is partially correct, it the reason they do focus groups. But occasionally manufacturers get it wrong.

Was part of the Focus group for the Mazda EV and I kept begging them to give it more range and decent acceleration. Of course they didn’t listen.

Appreciate the insightful post. However, I’m not concerned with the opinions of others regarding this matter. Additionally, the perspectives of ‘the average person,’ GM executives, Ford engineers, or anyone who doesn’t drive a Tesla, don’t influence my views on Tesla.

There is definitely something to the notion that people are less likely to tell you to your face that your truck is ugly than to write that online. However, given all the wonderment we see about the truck on sentry mode it's not all that. People are genuinely intrigued by it and that's before they know anything about its capabilities as a truck which are super impressive.

There's a super strong sentiment in a lot of companies that makes them think they know what their customers want and that's what they deliver. But usually they know what has sold in the past and they continue to deliver that only making it a little bigger and more with each iteration. Which is how we got a whole generation of pickups that look like the family truckster from National Lampoon's Vacation (I swear, that's exactly what the front end of the recent GMCs looks like).

I remember on the intro night. After a few minutes, my only response was "polarizing"
So, if you want to attribute the entire craze to me, I'll accept it.

But as the word suggests, there are those that really like and those the really don't. I don't think that I've ever hear "Looks like every other car/truck on the road."

They make them based of focus groups. Tesla makes them based off what Elon Musk wants.
