Following the historic launch of unsupervised public rides in Austin last week, some keen-eyed observers have noticed a critical hardware difference between the Model Y in your driveway and those picking up passengers.

The new Model Y Robotaxis are equipped with automatic camera sprayers, not only on the rear camera, like we previously reported, but also on the fender (repeater) cameras. While the B-pillar cameras on the Model Y don’t appear to have camera washers yet, the Cybercab has now been spotted with water jets on those cameras as well.


All cameras (excluding the cabin camera) on the Cybercab now have an active camera cleaner. The list includes the front bumper camera, repeater and B-pillar cameras, the rear camera, and the front cameras underneath the windshield.

Sure wish Tesla would offer a retro-fit to the CT. Winter driving in PA is about 3 minutes to camera blocked warnings.

so FSD use is limited and not by choice .

I think it’s could be an easy retrofit by Tesla and willing to pay for it .

The Cybertruck will be a very capable cargo oriented robotaxi, so they are surely already working on retrofits or new camera modules.

They will probably be ~ $200 each, is my guess.

There's a chance the CT is EOL before HW5, which is at least a year away.

I'm only building a standoff bracket for the rear camera! It does work great on there though... The side cameras still get blocked constantly and Tesla should've built the washers in on all cameras IMO.

ClearVue has built washers for the side cameras. It's definitely a workaround but it will work.
