I don’t understand it either. I can only guess that a lot of the MY preorders didn’t convert to actual orders. I’m also thinking there are a LOT of reservations that are waiting for the RWD and 3 row versions.
I canceled mine, but only because the CT was announced with SS and 500-mile range. I had always had a lower limit of 400 miles, towing ability, and rack able, so the Model Y was close. I never thought there would be many like me.

He said at least 200,000. To me, it means at least 200,000 not 200,000... I don't get the confusion or why it's a big deal.
It’s not a big deal if you have a low reservation number. Anyway, we are just having fun with it, aren’t we? Everyone here is on the same side of the fence.

I think the previous person who said that Elon may not want numbers to disappoint after X people who decide not to buy cancel was correct.

I read and listened to the interview. He said several hundred thousand orders. That can be broadly anywhere from 200,000-500,000. We just assume several = 2.
Exactly. I was just about to say this and saw your post. The various articles out there are just making up the 200K number when the actual quote from Elon on the podcast is as you said.

I saw that as well and I believe it's comes down to the wording. He says 'at least 200,000' orders. Not sure why they are choosing to hold down the numbers. Perhaps to avoid bad publicity when the multiple order holders only buy one, or for those who decide not to buy....
I'd guess the numbers aren't revealed because they intend to shock the competition.....by not giving numbers the legacy manufactures continue on their bored and unmotivated ways, unwittingly allowing their market share to wither. If Ford knew there were 1 million CT orders they might react faster.... the lower number keeps them complacent.

A couple is 2.
Several is more than 3.
For me it's always been:
A couple is 2
A few is three or four
Several is 5 or more

But I've been told I'm nuts. By the way, this whole debate is hilarious.

That's how I was taught, too, But when I went looking for a definition, three or more was what I found, and even then that's not '2'!

Suffice to say, they have alot of built-in interest and opt-in customers to market this to right away for the first several years of production.

I sorta wonder what they'll do when they mine it out, but the past just says 'make a better, cheaper model' so far. NA sales over sedans (as an example) every other car manufacturer says sales are dead - but what's actually happening is Tesla is eating their lunch in the market share.

Not exactly the response Elon was hoping for, where they just give up and go home. There needs to be viable competition or the investors start getting stingy.

I find it hard to believe anyone would cancel their order if they are even slightly serious about getting one. Losing your place in line for a refundable 100 bucks would be really dumb. If anything, reserving 2 or 3 and reselling for a profit to those not wanting to wait would be very profitable.

Doesn’t ‘several hundred thousand’ go up to, but shy of, one million?
For "sufficiently large" values of several.... /math geek

As an aside, I remember twenty years ago and all the big manufacturers said hatchbacks were dead, and it was all sedans in the future. So I put very little stock in their predictions. Still, the Cybertruck is a big chance, and I hope it pays off. It looks awesome.

I'll live with it being much bigger than I need. Gimme a four-seat version, please. I'll trade down when it's available.

driving a large vehicle is a big change from a typical car. not every1 will like it, but of course some will like it a lot. I personally don't really like it, its more annoying, especially on small back-roads. the Euro version appeals more to me as a vehicle, but I will be living out of the ct, maybe with a trailer so bigger is good
