The. PCS failure seems to be a major defect in design, any way to check what version is currently in a vehicle?
If you go to the Tesla parts website, click catalog, put in your VIN, and look up Power Conversion System, it shows you the currently installed version along with the newest.

Right, "zero percent" does NOT mean "zero volts". There's still dangerous levels of voltage in the pack at 0%, just not enough to operate the vehicle.

The pack can probably sit at 0% for weeks or months, since the only voltage drop will be from self-discharge. But if the voltage actually hits zero, the cells will be damaged and the pack will need to be replaced. Ouch.

So, hitting 0% is not great, and the pack needs charging "soon" but it's not a fatal condition.
Mostly agree, but the rest of the vehicle (MV battery in particular) sufferers if you let the HV go into self protect mode.

Rolling into Supercharger at 0% : not a big deal
Rolling into storage at 0% without a Level 1/2 connection: pain

There is also this:

PCS Detective
A diagnostic lookup for the Cybertruck Power Conversion System. Enter a VIN to identify the installed hardware revision.

https://pcsinfo.vercel.app/

It's probably using an API to pull VIN-specific data from Tesla.

I get that, but the customer facing side of the issue is oh hmm my $80k vehicle is draining the battery while it sits there untouched in the sc’s care, Let me ask them nicely over a period of a week to plug it in since i dont even typically let it go below 20%… “we will plug it in right away”… days go by… oh wow now it says 0% and they still haven't plugged it in! “Dont worry we will get it on a charger now” shop closes…it just doesnt make you feel like they are actually taking care of your car, and as the poster above described, how am i supposed to trust that they are carefully disassembling and reassembling the fragile plastic components without hidden damage if they cant even plug the damn thing in when asked before it reaches displayed 0?
That's basically why I opted for a buy back. On the 4th visit, they replaced the motor. Found a few signs that they were not careful with disassemble/reassemble, but this is the one 'that broke the camels back.'

Now the hose bangs around at freeway speeds, and the motor still makes noise.

Funny, the EPC says “hv related” but they argue its not part of the hv system, but the MV system, and therefore not covered by the 150k/8 year hv batter/drive train warranty.

For those with PCS failures, do you have solar at home where you charge? I’m suspicious about my solar inverter.

Add me to the list. I just got the PCS2 error and this will be my second PCS replacement. I had an HV_BATT error early on in ownership in May of 2024. Which requires replacement of that component along with the Battery. 😞
