And to disqualify for the tax credit you have to be in the top 1-2% of income.

Like, how is that 'too low'? I could see some arguments, but.., that's pretty rarified.

the FSD transfer is a pretty good incentive.
?

Got me to upgrade, twice!

‘21 M3P to late ‘23 MS Plaid, and
’20 MY to ‘24 MX

Definitely wouldn’t have done either without FSD transfer. The original cars were fantastic! (One of them was purchased by a good friend - he LOVES IT and the other is being used by my mother-in-law.)

Anyone that can be replaced by a robot needs to seriously upgrade their skills to avoid becoming a waste of oxygen.
Radiologist can be replaced by robots (they’ve got college +8 years). Watson has been replacing young lawyers since it won Jeopardy (they have all invested a minimum of 7 years post high school).

I would recommend that you read ‘Rise of the Robots’ for a primer on what’s really coming. This won’t be like the industrial revolution, or any before it.

This is a good thing. If you can’t afford it go Kick Rocks. It’s time the Government went back to the 80’s where we had the have and have nots.

Not everyone has to have the same, work hard and get what you want. These hand outs with leases and incentives should have been gone a while back.
As long as we remove the gasoline subsidies at the same time. Let’s be fair across the board.

Restricting environmental credits based on income is stupid.
...You could say that for food stamps, or housing assistance, too. Just recover it in taxes elsewhere - You could simplify alot of the tax code to make it more progressive while also focusing on pigovian or regulatory needs.

Reasonable argument, though. (y)

Alas, not one supported by the party that just won the election. But parties are imperfect collections of ideals.

There's an old saying that government is supposed to make those investments which are either too big for individuals or too contrary to individual motives but better for everyone as a group.

Environmentalism is definitely one of those things!

I’m retired. But if after 40 years of programming I can’t out-think a machine (not counting something like chess), I’m worm food anyway.
If not already how long do you think it will be until machines will code faster than humans?

Why does the Cybertruck not qualify for the $7,500?
The 4680 cells use imported Chinese cathodes which as of Jan 1 2024 disqualifiesthe vehicle from any credit under the 30D Clean Vehicle Credit.

I’m going to be getting the tax credit. I own some rental properties and hope to expand my portfolio in the future. I think I will be able to make more income and be in the top 1% in the future but not currently and will be able to capitalize on the credit. Just saying you can own a business and not be super rich and get the credit you just have to owe more than $7,500 to be able to utilize the full credit. Not that hard you just have to owe atleast that amount and own a business.
It can also be rolled forward as a general business credit...

Depends. Some things already, others not for years or more. Either that’s kind of limited or it’s translating from a specification language, which is still like programming but less detailed. Aside from syntax and spelling corrections, it will STILL do what you said, not necessarily what you wanted.

Take FSD as an analogy: at full alertness I look farther ahead than it does, planning moves. On a medium traffic freeway with packs, somewhere I can see a couple miles ahead, I can get further ahead less aggressively than if was only looking closer.

Humans can still do better than software and many things and will be able to stay ahead at some; at least the reasonably high functional humans, IF they work smart, focus, and put some effort in.

Can’t take for granted doing the same thing for decades, and it won’t be universally inclusive. But it’s better than becoming obsolete as a species.

There is a real ceiling on how many haves exist in our society. A vehicle priced for the haves will have a low sales ceiling. What the market needs are some quality EVs of all sorts for the have nots.
The CT is a have vehicle. Has power, utility, tech, style although controversial, lovers, haters, and a commensurate price tag. It was previewed and marketed as a broad market appeal vehicle capable of dethroning the F150. Of course the have nots are unhappy.

The Ford Lightning is a good vehicle, just somewhat expensive, especially given the high interest rates these days for any kind of loan

At the time, Lightning was priced right around where Cybertruck is priced today. Based on Tesla's history with price cuts for all other models, and Elon's statement above, I think we can figure out where Tesla is headed with Cybertruck price. For instance GMC Sierra sells around 239,000 units per year, and the average cost is $64,000 per unit. Tesla is in no way competing with GM, but that is a an addressable market for truck buyers, by price range. I think it gives us a hint at What Tesla expects to be necessary to hit those volumes. I do think Cybertruck has some features that will cause buyers to move up the price range to make it work. But paychecks and payments have to match on some level, and TAM directly addresses this metric.

That may be out of our control.

Only if we're a bunch of lazy so-and-so's, not willing to keep our brains ahead of the rest of a hostile universe. (AI is NOT a threat, machines and software both are way too easy to break)

Then again, a generation of safe-space-seeking couch potatoes, maybe we're toast. :-(

Ford isn’t going anywhere and won’t be giving up the truck crown anytime soon. They don’t need government incentives. What they need is a collaboration with Tesla using their tech.
Considering the laughed and Trashed the information Tesla did share with them on 48V Cars. Why would Tesla help them now? Their arrogance is going to put themselves down. Sure they have money to burn for now, but it won't last. They hardly engineered anything new on the Lightning (its a Ice Truck with a battery and electric motor)and it shows, poorest charge rate, poor range, battery issues, etc. I am amazed they sold any.
