They're already doing a M3 LFP in China and even for Oz. Not much of a news item that the MY gets it, M3 and MY pack are the same anyway?

Long-distance vehicle commuting is mostly an American phenomenon, which is why the US market tends to be more range-sensitive (plus we like everything bigger Bigger BIGGER!). Still, there's a price-sensitive segment that would enjoy a more affordable EV with a shorter (but still reasonable) range.

Currently, the 4680 is only being built in North America, so the other geographies are sourcing batteries from wherever they can. Since the EV battery market is resource-constrained, the variety of cells used at each factory is a natural consequence.

LFPs are sold in the US. As I pointed out, some Model 3 are. The new battery in my car.

Until last year, they were not cost-parity with other lithium batteries due to patents.

LFP are slightly poorer on volume as well as weight to kWh capacity to other lithium.

Yes, they're selling alot of them to rental fleets. The production is spoken for.

LFP is safer, lower cost, producible in high volumes. It is good enough to fulfill needs of many buyers.

I believe the Austin Model 3 with 4680 batteries is the ONLY structural battery pack currently being used in vehicles.

Technically the battery packs in the Energica and Zero SR/F would also count as structural, but not as well as the Tesla pack.

I should have ended with "... at least Tesla vehicles" as my knowledge beyond Tesla EV's is pretty limited.

I noticed my Y model order stepped up delivery by a month. I hope that is because of the battery .
