Maybe they are talking about the frequency of the PWM modulation? If they could design photochromatic dye to respond to that, it would be pretty cool.

I can't see a dye reacting to that in a useful way. Seems more like a method to get partial blocking depending on time constants.

Doubt if Tesla would ever offer a price friendly upgrade. FWIW just to replace one headlight on a 2020 Model Y it is $1900 parts & labor.

Replacement isn't that hard on the cybertruck. Yeah the unit cost will probably hurt but the install itself shouldn't be bad.
I'd consider it. I know what the current lights go for and ebay probably won't be to bad to sell them.
