As I originally expected, Tesla just cancelled my service request and stated it was normal for the wheel covers to leave marks on the wheels.

It is definitely YMMV and OP got lucky they repaired the wheels.
Can they point you to the disclaimer in the manual or somewhere where it says that?

I had mine on less than 1k miles and tesla sent me come complimentary center caps. They looked better than the ones I had purchased, and I never liked the looks with the full covers so I swapped them out. I didn't notice any appreciable range change.

I had some light marks, they washed off though luckily. Sorry about yours, glad they fixed them!

I took my wheel covers off as well. My rims were mildly scratched, but I don't think it has anything to do with the covers wearing the rims, mine seemed to be a result of road grit collecting between the plastic and rim surface.

I went to wash my truck the other day and noticed all 4 wheels were scratched where the wheel covers were attached. Tesla Dublin agreed to refinish all of the wheels without much trouble. I have stopped using them until Tesla comes up with a remedy. Attached are before and after pics:

Yes, with any new Tesla with covers you either take them off day one, or never so you don’t know the long term damage they cause. Lol

Because of this thread, I made a mental note to check my Core wheels...yup, mine are completely scratched where the edge of the wheel cover / hub cap meets the edge of the wheel. The Core wheel covers have a piece of aluminum/metal that rubs against the wheel.

I'm surprised they designed the wheel covers with this piece of metal that scratches the wheel. But, honestly, I'm keeping the covers on my wheels so don't care all that much. BUT, this is the first time I've ever experienced a wheel cover scratching the wheel and it's the first time I've ever heard of it.

In the 3rd pic, I'm trying to show where the scratch is with the wheel cover on. Seems to me like the cover flexes as the vehicle is driven and hits bumps, potholes, etc.

I have 3,500 miles on my CT.

My suggestion is: if you bought a CT and don't want to keep the covers on, take them off ASAP so you don't have scrached wheels.

Wow, clearly the Core wheel covers are rubbing on the wheel in those spots…guess I’ll find out how my Core wheels look when I pull the covers off to adjust tire pressures now that it’s getting warmer in my area.
Can you just pull off the cover and not the ring? Seems the ring is the problem.

Mine had them on less than 2k miles, same exact scratch pattern.
Service center said "yea they all do that, don't use the covers if you don't want the rims scratched"

So
1. Lose 3% range (covers off)
2.Scratched Rims (covers on)
Those are the ONLY two choices

I just don't know where it says that in the manual.

Yea, I don't think it says "If you use the wheel covers they will scratch the **** out of our rims"
Although it should if it is a 100% chance they will

I can't speak for them but for me my Model 3 and Model Y have always had wheel covers on with no scratches.
