I went to wash my truck the other day and noticed all 4 wheels were scratched where the wheel covers were attached. Tesla Dublin agreed to refinish all of the wheels without much trouble. I have stopped using them until Tesla comes up with a remedy. Attached are before and after pics:

Yes day one of receiving any Tesla with hud cap covers.

You must decide to keep them on forever (terminology) or remove day one so they don’t permanently rub scratches in the metal rims.

it’s a real thing. Remove them before driving off.

Yeah I got mine put on nearly a year after delivery and they scratched all four wheels. Will not be putting them back on. Using the free caps they sent for now. Had a set of lug bolt covers and center caps that I put on at the SC when I took delivery last year, so I’ve never rolled ā€˜naked’ on the wheel hubs/lugs.

Just like the battery extender Tesla should come out and say, ā€œSorry we’re not making hubcap covers because all the possible solutions are over engineered turds.ā€ I just got mine and they only ever will be wall art.

Most likely it is just the poor quality of coating on the wheels. It is very unfortunate that they didn’t think it through.

Are you happy with results? I have an appointment in a few weeks to get mine done. Guy at SC used an orbital polisher on one rim and looks slightly shiny. I told them to hit pause on that and let's do it right. They said they would do a third party. Wondering if I should push for replacement now. I don't want one shiny one. SMH

I've been very happy. They used a 3rd party in my case is my understanding. None of mine came out shiny, they look brand new and have held up with multiple off-road trips.

OK, let me challenge you with the very deep question of....Why?
  1. The covers were designed for efficiency. I heard somewhere like an 8% savings in electricity useage per mile.
  2. The covers look cool as-hell and in-theme with the figgin rest of the Cyber Truck.
  3. They aren't your old-school chrome hubcaps from the 1950's and '60's. These are Blade-Runner quality wheel covers. (That you can replace for $75 each).
  4. If your stock wheels scratch, who cares? Because we are rocking covers on them at all times!! (Can't see the scratches anyway)
  5. If you just can't stand the futurisic, efficient, plastic wheel covers any longer, and you want them off, but have scratches on your stock wheels...again, who cares? They were stock anyway, and if you're going full-naked wheels...may as well go after-market, badass wheels at that point...
??ā€ā™‚

This is starting to win me over and make some sense. I'm overthinking this whole thing and really don't want to take a day off to go to SC for refinish.

Most likely Tesla interns designed the wheel covers.

If I ordered an AWD Premium I would request not to have the wheel covers installed during the PDI.
