Yeah telling someone to “calm down” is the best way to get them to ramp up.
Any use of force in these situations has the potential to escalate the level of force even further, and then it's a lose-lose game. Deescalation and/or avoidance is the best strategy, not some weird ass weaponry. If you're going to carry something, carry a handgun, but for its intended purpose of saving your life and not some measurement contest.
It is also Elon that made the brand about himself, and who changed his vision and direction beyond reversal, so the brand image is a reflection of that. Unless Tesla somehow manages to radically disassociate itself it will continue to experience the consequences. I can't fathom how that might even be possible. Its customer base will inevitably shift.

The only thing I would offer is I am now convinced that he doesn’t care because he views Chinese consumers as his core customer on a go forward basis.
