I received the invite for the install, and requested they add the light bar during my October 13th service visit for two minor issues and they said no problem.

According to the Service Manual, they are not permitted to hook it up or even remove the blackout tape from the front:

Off Road Lightbar (Mount on Windshield Only) (Retrofit) (tesla.com)
In Florida, light bars must remain covered when on public roadways. If you read the Statute it seems that when covered, they cannot produce light which would violate the any section below:

https://codes.findlaw.com/fl/title-xxiii-motor-vehicles/fl-st-sect-316-233/#:~:text=Auxiliary driving lamps.-,--Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not to,upon which the vehicle stands.

This seems relevant, but says something different http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes...ute&URL=0300-0399/0316/Sections/0316.237.html

Now, I am not sure what to think.

This is NOT about Tesla trying to screw us. It IS about they showed a light bar on the prototype, so to deal with varying and sometimes intrusive and obnoxious state laws, this is all their lawyers will let them do.

That said, be sure to follow instructions carefully if you DIY.
Are you new to Teslas? ? Tesla, as a company and Tesla service centers, greatly differ in what they determine voids a warranty and what is covered by warranty.
Tesla service center almost denied my rear sail panel safety recall because my CT had been wrapped in PPF
Regarding what they showed us and being forced to include it. That’s not true either. There’s a list of items much larger that they told or showed us the CT would have and did not come with. Do you recall the 500 mile range? 6 seat option? There’s plenty. Tesla has no obligation to follow thru with a Lightbar that was popular 10 years ago. It wasn’t main selling point for anyone

I don’t know of anyone who has been ticketed for driving with auxiliary lamps in Florida.. My Jeep had powerful led top mounts and never had issues. Also the CT aux light bars are not obtrusive. I would not worry about it. However, each can decide for themselves whether to use or not the covering.

It would be nice if the light bar could be adapted/modified to become roof top "marker" lights as seen on many pickups. Suppose they could change their color to amber and then just have 5 points dimmed and lit up, similar to this:
Tesla Cybertruck Offroad Light Bar Installed by Service Center! Menu first look: Ditch Lights & Flood Flights functions 1727015845519-dj

That could be useful and cool.

I am thinking a light bar cover of some sort could potentially accomplish this .

Obligation, no, but they probably did what they could without even longer delays or even higher price increases.

OTOH they do have to work within stupid state laws, so make the last connection yourself may be the best they can do.

Companies vary; some want to screw you, others just want not to get screwed, in which case they won’t always get it right about what’s legit and what isn’t.

This will be my first owned Tesla, but I’ve followed them for years, known people who had them, and rented a Model 3 for a couple of weeks last year since the cost was the same as for a base ICE vehicle. And I’ll match anyone for skepticism. ?

Agreed, and that is why I scheduled the install. I also am tinting my windshield.

Instead of permanently attaching it to the windshield, why not attach metal plates to the windshield and use strong magnets and a plug to allow it to be removed if desired?
