I would not use Plaid. PERIOD!
Too many unknown, unknowns.

On my delivery day, I had already located my CT in the parking lot and completed a cursory walkaround. I then simply walked into my SC with a cashier's check from my CU. They asked me if I needed to inspect the truck, and I said I already had. "Sign here", and I was complete in 2 minutes. Inconceivable!! I even asked, "Is that it?" By far the easiest car purchase I have ever made!!

I could have driven away, right then... but I asked them to spend a few minutes with me and show me the truck. (a virgin, my first Tesla/EV). The SC delivery team could not have been more gracious. Sophie even rode with me on a short drive to point out a few features.

It was an awesome experience. TWO big thumbs up(y)(y) to the Richmond VA. (Glen Allen) SC.

Plaid sucks.

When you give them your password—which is a violation of your agreement with your bank—they download all of your transactions and sell your income and purchase history to advertisers. You give them permission to do this in perpetuity, so they'll continue slurping up your data and selling it to anyone who wants it for years afterwards, until you change your password. (If anyone here fell for the Plaid scam, please consider this a sign you need to change your password now, including on any other accounts where you use the same password.)

Most banks now let you initiate wire transfers online; gone are the days where you had to walk into a physical bank branch.

With many banks, wire transfers are now free—I use a Fidelity money management account as my primary checking and this is the case. If your bank charges for wires, you should find a new one. And after you switch, don't go around giving the password to your new account to third party data brokers.
So personally,

I don't like Plaid, and don't use them unless I have no choice, but...

This isn't true. Yes, handing them your password can be a violation (and it's something you really shouldn't do) but no, they don't sell your transaction information.

I just spoke with them, NO CASHIER's check or Certified/Bank Cheque either! ONLY Wire Transfer
I paid with a cashiers check at the Aurora, CO store in August. A good friend of ours did the same there 2 weeks ago.

If anyone is willing to give me a cashiers check, i'd be happy to test it out on delivery day and put all this to rest...

That page says you "have control" over your information, not that they don't share it.

Check out their privacy policy: https://plaid.com/legal/#data-we-collect-and-categories-of-sources

They absolutely collect your data, and share it. The way you control (opt out of) this is not to use them.

I was in a SC today. I mentioned the PLAID no longer allowed on amounts over 80k. He confirmed that this was initiated by Tesla, because some bad actors had scammed money somehow. He said Cashiers checks and wires are fine.

I wonder how the scam was done?

FYI, just got an update from my advisor. “Tesla has updated their CASH option. If the vehicle cost is over $80,000 it does have to be wired to Tesla now. We are no longer accepting cashier’s checks. This new update just went into affect.”

Glad they updated me as I’ll have to shuffle to a diff bank with no daily wire limit.

Friend went to pick up his CT today with a cashier's check. Tesla supposedly told him that anything over $40,000 had to be wired but he said he already had a cashier's check made and it would take a couple of days to wire it. I wonder if this policy is flexible to try to push through end of quarter deliveries.

I would have told them absolutely not, and if they wanted to complete the sale they would take my bank check today, or I would order through another service center.

I have ordered 2 new vehicles with Telsa, and brought an official bank check each time. It helps to keep it in the original envelope and untorn from the printout.

alternatively, they can agree to wire as long as Tesla covers the wiring fee. It shouldn't cost money to give them money.
