500 mile trip from Townsend TN north to Toledo Ohio. I have made this trip empty and with 3 separate campers now. Cruise set at 72 mph.

Truck only with cargo, vault closed. Cat scales 8460 total weight.
424 wh/mi

Truck and the Polydrop, same cargo and truck weight. 72 mph.
520 wh/mi

Truck and Nucamp Tag XL, same cargo and 72 mph.
696 wh/mi

Truck with 21’ Mallard. Full size camper. Towed beautifully but took a day and half with charging stops.
1150 wh/mi

Things to note, live usage increases by 4% per mile, north of Lima Ohio. The land is flat but the fields open up and the wind takes over.

For reference this is the nucamp we rented and my “parachute”. When we take the big one we call it the 2024 Supercharger Tour.

I would guess it would have almost no discernible change in energy consumption.

This was our first trip with the Polydrop. So far we love it, but it is very small compared to our other option. We did have the Wave AC unit installed and plugged it into the truck. We used 12% of the truck battery each day. Starlink and ac while we slept.

Polydrops also has a 21’… Just a tad over 6’ standing room at the door then tapers off..

Thanks for the info on power usage. Very helpful to our decision as well..

I’d love to know how this combo would do on the same trip. We had considered the Polydrop, especially for the range and shape, but ended up with Future + Retro look.

Rounding energy increase: +23% Polydrop, +64% NuCamp. Aero matters. Thanks for the comparison.

Okay…. Dumbarse here. I see all this talk about wh/mi. How do you translate that into range? I’d really like to understand it. How many wh does a Cybertruck have?

Thank you

At highway speeds you will probably see 1100-1250. That tail will help dramatically but you’ll still visit a charger on 60 mile intervals. I’ve learned they aren’t close enough to skip one. These trucks tow beautifully but the range is such a let down. And the mirrors won’t help you at all. Just take them off so you don’t get your hopes up.

Supposedly the CT battery is 123 kWh, but in calculations that would be if you went from 100% to 0% (empty) and that’s not what anyone would want to do. For example, if you wanted to work from 80% to 10% that would be 70% of 123 = 86kWh = 86000Wh. Use that with the Watt•hour/mile to figure possible range.

Thank you very much for the range testing. We're pretty excited to see what range we get with our soon to be delivered Alto Safari 17' R1713 trailer, especially with the Tesla range extender, & possibly 60 psi trailer tires (tbd)
