They should have an option where it will open automatically if you stand near it holding groceries. It has a front camera, so totally doable.
That would be a great feature and totally appreciated. It really sucks fetching for your keys (or cell phone) to open the trunk when the arms are full of groceries.

Yeah, I go through this a couple times a week. Having a shelf that opens automatically to set things on would be a godsend.

If you set yourself up correctly (smartwatch, earbuds, whatever) you can always just say “Hey Siri, open the frunk” or whatever the equivalent Alexa command might be and have it open. I use that method for opening the gate to my neighborhood From my current car.

independent of the video, I am confirming the hood is powered

the video is for those who have to see for themselves (and, apparently, who have experience with moving an unpowered motor against its gearing)
You are definitely correct here. Some videos definitely have a frunk opening more easily. I wonder if the powered frunk will be an add option. I think the CT will be reaching the broadest market for Tesla yet. From small lawn maintenance folks to owners of billion dollar construction company's and dictators in Niger. Anyway, i think the CT is ripe for a lot of add on options. Some people will want to keep it really simple and some will want diamond encrusted, AI operated frunks.

Why does this need to be so complicated. The best doors i have ever dealt with are on my wifes minivan. If you are near the car with your key it unlocks and you manually open the door. The huge sliders are powered but the rear door isnt and its fine. Evertime i deal with a powered rear door its odd. The frunk will be light once counterbalanced. Its kindof frustrating having to find a button or get our your phone. i just want to be able to grab the stupid lid and shut it. done.

Proof is in the pudding.

The Ecoflow battery pack they had in the frunk pictures only has a 12V and 110V output. They were using standard jumper cables though, so I'd say 100% there's a 12V battery in there that they plugged into the 12.6V 30A Ecoflow outlet.

This conversation has been had on the 48V thread, there's still a 12V battery, it's just that some of the larger power users are on 48V. All the electronics run on 12V or lower still.
Not necessarily. If you look closely, the EcoFlow isn’t hooked directly to the jumper cables. It is plugged into an electrical box with multiple cooling fans which I strongly suspect is a DC/DC boost converter that is stepping the 12V output from the EcoFlow up to the 48V needed by the truck.

Obviously I could be mistaken, but the point is there is really no proof at all and frankly I’d be pretty surprised if they changed the 48V architecture as that was one of the main talking points at the Cyber Rodeo when the truck was basically already out of the design phase.

It's hard to tell if that extra box is connected at all.

If it were so, then it is much easier to find high power 48V buck chargers that run directly off a 120/230V on that Ecoflow, than boost ones that go from 12V to 48V. A single 110V port on there would do 4-5x as much as the 12V 30A port which can only do 360W.

Regardless, if you look at the 48V thread you will see that there a many reasons that 12V will still be on the CT, 48V only make sense for the larger power users, but most of everything else runs on 12V or less.

As for the cable savings this is primarily because of their connector-less bus cable system from their patent and not just because of the switch to 48V.

that discussion *wasnt* that the CT would be entirely 48v.

Tesla/Musk have said it would be *mostly* 48v, and only where power is outside the drivetrain:

EDIT: both vids below should be queued to portion

the investor day discussion described the transition in CT being "mostly" 48 and to move to entire in future platforms

Then during the investor meeting Musk talks about it only briefly:

First he says early in the presentation that Tesla's conversion to 48v is only going to be only outside of the drivetrain.

the on-screen diagram describes tesla-built controllers being ~85%, so that leaves it possible that they're getting 15% of 48v related architecture from 3rd parties?

a bit unclear, but at least no assertion that the CT will be entirely 48v (including if only outside the drivetrain)
