Pull straps for the vault - easy DIY install

I wanted to share a quick upgrade to my setup. I originally built some fold-out pull handles based on a thread here. They worked great for a while, but after helping a buddy move some heavy gear, I ran into a major flaw: during unloading, cargo kept hitting the handles, causing them to pop open and act as accidental stops. Since I bolted them to L-track anchors, they weren't easy to just remove on the fly.

Looking for a fix, I found these heavy-duty gym equipment pull straps on Amazon. Honestly, they work way better. They have a longer reach and are incredibly fast and easy to take off when I need the clearance. A couple of small catches: The included carabiners were a bit too small for the L-track hooks, so I swapped them out for a larger set. But even with that, this setup is cheaper (assuming you already have some L-track hooks to clip them to).

Granted, because I already sunk time and money into building the original fold-out handles, the total project cost wasn't exactly "cheap" in the end—but if I had started with the gym pulls, it would have been a fraction of the price!

If you want to secure them without taking them off, a hook and loop strap easily prevents them from banging around.

AKSHUALLY, If this Cybertruck’s indeed rocking, the correct call is to check for error codes related to the air suspension system. If it is, you should schedule service ASAP.

@machmax - thanks for a simple solution, though I won’t be using in the vault but going to attach two to the rear seat child-seat anchors. This gives a great extra hand for my mom and other elderly people to get in and out.

@Art138, tried looking for the thread but can’t find it. He had a different design than what I did. He also used fold out handles but he had access to better machining equipment.

... and I think somewhere in there we learned that the protruding edge of the bumper that goes around the side of the truck serves pretty well as a step. Thus, while I'm not always a fan of the no-part-is-the-best-part mantra, my go-to is grabbing onto the tonneau channel, putting a toe on the the bumper side step, pulling/stepping up, stepping on the gate and into the bed. The side bumper "step" is lower than the gate, the tonneau channel accepts one or two hands, and this route works well.

Someone else is a fan of leaving the gate up, stepping up on the back of the bumper, stepping over the gate and in. Also a zero-part solution.

I have a simple 4-step process for climbing into the bed, which I call the "old-man technique":

1. Sit on the open tailgate
2. Wiggle my butt backwards until I can get my feet up
3. Roll over and crawl in
4. Complain about how much the corrugated flooring hurts my knees
