In reality they may not make the extra battery, but may upgrade our current battery pack to give us the extra range and charge for the upgrade, less the deposit. I would be perfectly happy with that.

That would be awesome and I would gladly plunk down that $16,000 to get the extra range AND keep the truck bed whole - you know, kinda like we were promised 5 years ago :D

Maybe Tesla should consider a smaller range extender that can be permanently mounted below the rear seats? Sure, might only be 20-30 kWh, but that could add 50-100 miles of range and would have the mass nicely centered between the axles. At 30kWh at my current/lifetime efficiency of 333Wh/mi I'd be looking at effective real-world range of 150kWh x 3 mi/kWh = 450 miles. On all terrains without wheel covers. Would take it.

The chances of that happening are 0.

Man I just wish there was a more optimal design. As much as I want extra range I cannot justify losing that much bed space.
Totally agree.
Did know there was space underneath the bed for another 20 to 30% more battery and it pisses me off because that’s the battery we were promised and now Tesla wants $16,000 ? For battery we don’t even know what it will be in 2025 ?

This was debunked already.
