Rapid depreciation

I tried to put some numbers to this so that there's something to compare that's reasonable so that this isn't just esoteric nonsense. I asked ChatGPT 4.5 to do some comparisons and then put it in a table for me to share here. Feel free to attack any assumptions or methodology. This is not perfect but there's a non-trivial difference between the way these two trucks have depreciated. This doesn't mean causation exists, but I don't think this is gonna get better for the Cybertruck or any Tesla over the next couple of weeks. It'd be great if we could have a discussion about the data without the politics, but I just don't think it's possible I'm up for it if anybody else wants to try.

It's funny (at least to me) how you can see it repeating my last instruction just above the table!

NOTE: I can already see one significant error. It didn't include cyber beast in the data or if it did it wasn't clear about it. Anybody's welcome to run this on their own AI or whatever Grok, if you think it's gonna be somehow more fair.

1) it was a question not a declaration of intent
2) I do think there will be a class formed, though more likely not about depreciation though I can see an attempt made
3) I love my truck. Best vehicle I’ve ever driven let alone owned.
4) recalling when I took possession of the truck that I was early enough it appreciated when I drove it off the lot but of course I anticipated the eventual depreciation. Just not at the current rate which has been well documented.

So for all you haters out there, kindly fuck off. You read into the question what you wanted to with little to no detail and certainly no questions back.

You’re at $40k-ish less than I paid. I’m not likely to sell, was just curious about the rapid depreciation. As I said, best vehicle let alone truck I’ve ever driven. These haters just want to hate on someone and I gave them an easy target. Too bad they outted their idiocy and inability to read and comprehend (you know there used to be a test for that) along the way.

And like another on the board, I’ve a 2005 Escalade which is still running well and great to drive. But no comparison. It would have been cheaper to buy a new Escalade and that was never on my radar.

What depreciation? All used CT’s listed on Autotrader are about $79k at the lowest. What’s going to hurt you the most is the EV tax credit unless you got it at purchase. I can’t believe there’s a used dual motor CT for more than $70k considering a brand new one is technically $73k.

Every single EV drops instantly dude to the credit. Then you add typical 15% depreciation. You should have been on the Lightning forums, especially after the first price drops. Some people ate it really bad.

That said, send me over your price if you think your CT is worth under $70k and that’s what you’re looking to get rid of it for.

Foundation got people vehicles earlier and made the options an all or nothing deal.
Foundation Series AWD package was never worth $20k. Beast FS package only was if you could take advantage of the Powershare install credit.
Unless selling the Gateway and UWC with the vehicle, that's $2,500 of value lost. Beast $4k credit too.
Now you can get FS with Supercharging instead, 2% financing, and $6k off. Or ala cart a non-FS. For the frugal, AWD with IRA credit is $72k.

I'm still gonna say it's about average. And Carvana overestimates loss because they want profit. We've had two posters get near $80k trade-ins at dealers this month!

This isn’t political per se. but as we all know, all of our cyber trucks have had a rapid depreciation due to the non Tesla related antics of its CEO. If I’d have known this is where we’d end up, despite the fact that I love my truck, I wouldn’t have bought it. Now I can’t get out of it because it’s worth less than I owe. Curios if any attorneys on here think there is a class in the making.

I am about to pick up my Foundation series Cybertruck on Saturday. It has around 400 miles on it, it’s brand new. Total cost out the door is $106,000 but I am financing for 1.99 APR and I’ll put down $30,000 and unlimited super charging. It has grey interior (the white looks better but it could end up looking stained I’m assuming)

I expect all the past updates and corrections that have happened over the past year have also been done to this one.

Plus I don’t understand why people are upset. I took the advantage of getting an early foundation delivery in NJ and rented on turo around 10times when people were eager to rent it for 600-700$ daily. It basically paid first six months. On top I got 2500$ credit from tesla for powershare. On top because I rent it on turo I was able to use most of its depreciation value as tax credit. Yes as a 2024 I couldn’t get 7500$ ev credit but business tax break is much better. On top I had an amazing friendly experience from lots of strangers that million dollar cars barely get. If not at my level most early FD people get similar experiences , right?
