Refrigerated Cybertruck Frunk?

Wow! That cooler represents a considerable improvement in efficiency over what Peltier coolers could do 30 years ago. I guess that's to be expected. Yes, it only goes to 40 °F and yes, it uses a little more power than a comparable compressor type refrigerator/freezer but it is much less expensive and 40 °F should be adequate for most applications.

What about another option: a Peltier sucking externally off the chiller or cabin evaporator, or other cooled component under the hood? If you can get enough watts off a cooled surface, delta would be easy, and efficiency would be up too. No moving parts, super compact and cheap, and if a clip on design, low installation cost as well. Maybe use heat pipes for connecting to the frunk from source.

One external source of cold that is, usually to our detriment, always available in a refrigeration system is the suction line. If you could replace that with a coaxial line you could get some cold from it. Of course this would change the superheat at the compressor and you would have to open the system to install it and probably have to tweak the charge to get the super heat back to where it should be.

But then the fact that these portable fridges only use 40 watts or so with COPs ranging from 0.4 (Peltier) to say 2 (compressor) suggest that only 10 watts or so of cooling are needed (if the box is loaded with pre chilled stuff).

Raise your hand if you would like to see an insulated & refrigerated (or cooled) frunk. It would be quite easy to implement, the AC unit is nearby. Without cooling, the Frunk could get to BBQ level temperatures, esp when truck is stationary.

I would be interested in a refrigerator that fits in the under bed storage compartment. Maybe poll for 1/3, 1/2 and a full size version. I would likely go with 1/3 or 1/2 that leaves space for the mobile wall connector and a few other tools.
