They may have done this with the Model Y in Texas too. They had a few cars roll out for the first “Deliveries” at Giga Texas during Cyber Rodeo, then the factory didn’t produce another car for a while after that. (I think… too late and lazy to check the timing on when production started proper-like)

But if they did a “fake” start of deliveries, it would mean they are planning on opening up the config tool very soon.

EDIT: Popped over to Twitter and the account seems a bit… sketchy. No history of reliable leaks, account is less than 6 months old. Less than 2 weeks ago says “expect this account to be more active with Tesla rumors soon”.

I would treat it was highly suspect.

.

But… Musk was supposed to get his beta truck soon.

No way they would do that without mentioning it at the Semi event as a one more thing.

I post Cybertruck stuff on the Internet and people like it.

I would love for this to be true, the 30 Cybertrucks, but it’s highly unlikely

5 betas? Sure. Crash testers, spec verifications. THIRTY? We would know something by now.

I often wonder how much of the Model Y is actually MADE at the GigaTexas factory and how much is just shipped in.

Do they ship in complete dashes? Is the HVAC ducting formed on site?

I mean, they are still putting fixtures in the factory and some of those will eventually replace pieces that are shipped in. Some pieces will probably always be shipped in. I don't see them manufacturing tires onsite, for instance.

Seems like a reasonable way to prepare for mass production. Especially for a new engineering design for a product. Timing may be questionable.

That's about how many they need to build to run them through all the crash tests they need to do to get the CT certified. I doubt any of these will actually make it to consumers.
Probably a lot more than that.

Maybe they'll break the test equipment again. ;-)

Presumably these will be based on the final design and hopefully at least a few people will get to see the final design then?

Doesn’t seem terrible to me.
Not terrible but questionable source.
