I love common sense analysis. Well said.
But the HASSLE of plugging in is gone, and for those without charging at home it saves trips to a supercharger.

Still not worth it from a fiscal standpoint, but neither is anything about a $120k truck

It would have to be exceptional circumstances to warrant the pain-in-the-butt effort to drain the collected charge into the pack every night.

If I had to guess, it's not a 5kW inverter, it's probably a 5kWh battery with a couple 100W of panels depending on exposure. ~12mi of range and maybe 2-3 days to charge it.

It just doesn't make sense. Every year, it seems, another bozo thinks they were the first to think of putting solar panels on an EV. Most usually talk to an engineer or someone who understands math and physics before they make a fool of themselves but there are always a few who slip through.

It might make sense for this car (100Wh/mi):

I have one of those reserved. Not so much for the solar (although in a sunny climate it can easily add over 20 miles of range/day) but for the extreme efficiency and ease of charging on a 120V outlet.

Over 99% of Cybertruck owners would still need to plug it in. And I don't know why you think plugging in is a hassle. I actually enjoy it, because it means I don't have to visit gas stations.

I used to have one reserved, too, back in 2009 - before they went bankrupt and got sold. I hope they are successful this time around but I'm not holding my breath.

Too bad there isn't a convenient interface to allow the panels to charge the main Cybertruck battery (123 kWh) directly.

I agree with you. We need wireless charging in order to serve that segment of the market who rent or live in multi family dwellings.
The Tesla Cybertruck is equipped with hardware to support wireless inductive charging. Its battery pack includes connectors labeled as “Inductive Charger headers,” as revealed in the service manual. This suggests the vehicle can be paired with a wireless charging pad, allowing it to charge by simply parking over a compatible mat.

On the list for an Aptera as well!!!
Reserved it just before the CT announcement and worried I'd have to decide, at this point I will still get the Aptera and sell my wife's Subaru or Model Y. No way I'm parting with the CT...but I definitely want to drive the Aptera
