Hello,

I’ve been a member of this group for years but this is my first post. Today when I was driving home on the interstate I heard a thunking noise underneath my feet. I thought I had a flat tire but the sensor didn’t show any loss of pressure. I pulled over a few minutes later and took a look at the tire and the wheel assembly but I didn’t see anything and the tire was fine. I got off the freeway and took the back roads home. The noise became more steady, then would disappear, then come back. It also started happening even when I was stopped at a light. Thankfully I was able to make it home.
I’ve never had this issue before and there were no warnings on the screen. I contacted Tesla and they said to use roadside assistance to have it towed to the nearest service center.

My truck is a 2024 AWD FS. I’m going to try and attach a video I took and I would be grateful for any input the community has.

I had the same thing happen to me. What I did was shut off the automatic noise cancellation (anc) tab. When I received a new software update I turned it back on and it’s been working fine. I know what you mean by the flat tire noise

Hi Tinman,
Thank you for sharing. I will try that. However, I felt the vibration under my feet, not sure if it is the noise cancellation.

The noise does sound like the one I had but I did not feel the vibration under my feet. I hope it’s not serious. Keep me posted. Thanks

Did you go into service mode and check for any error or warnings? Sound like contactors but hard to tell. Was it preconditioning during this by any chance?

I checked today and there is nothing there, it was not preconditioning when the sound was happening. I went for a drive today and I couldn’t hear the sound. I like your idea Ri22 of the contactor and Grok concurs it would make a thunking noise. I’ve let Tesla know about the sound and my plan now is to keep driving until I get an alert or my appointment to replace the PCS at the end of next month. Whichever comes first. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Found this on the net:

Yes, a loud thumping or clunking sound felt under the driver's feet in a Cybertruck is likely the high-voltage (HV) battery contactors engaging or disengaging, which is a normal operating sound. These contactors act as large electrical switches that connect the battery to the motors, creating a mechanical click or "thunk".
Key Details About This Sound
  • When it happens: The sound typically occurs upon waking the vehicle, starting it, or after parking.
  • Location: It is often heard or felt through the floor, particularly near the HV battery.
  • Alternative Cause: Similar thumping sounds can occur during Supercharging due to the battery pack cooling or heating and the metal expanding.
While these sounds can be surprisingly loud, they are designed to be part of the vehicle's electrical system and generally do not indicate a fault. However, if the sound happens constantly while driving or is accompanied by performance issues, it is advisable to have it checked by service.

I don't think the sound in the video is the HV contactors. I've never heard one quote so loud, and if for some reason your HV contactors 'thunked' while you were driving. well.. I don't believe you'd be driving much further, since the entire HV system would be going <thunk>Off... <thunk> On..... <thunk> Off....

My first guess, watching the video is "you've trapped someone small in the frunk and they want out"... my second thought is something is very unhappy in the HVAC or cooling system? (Trying to think what else is located in front/below the cabin?)

Maybe the air spring has a hole?

Hi RonM,

I’ve heard noises when charging at a supercharger or while preconditioning but not like this and never this loud. Thank you for your input.

Hi Alpha42,

I swear no one was locked in the frunk 😂 I don’t know about HVAC or cooling? But the AC was working fine while it was happening

Hi Mongo,

Possible, but I don’t think so. When I got out to take a look I raised the truck to the maximum height and the system operated normally without any problems

When stopped, put the truck to entry level and see if the noise stops. I'm thinking airbag.
