Tested CCS Dongle, is this normal?

So I bought a CCS1 dongle from Amazon, and wanted to test it to make sure it works before I just stick it in the truck for emergencies.

I tried charging at a Mercedes Benz DC fast charge location, listed as 400v. I could NOT get it to charge. I tried connecting the connector to the adapter first, then plugging it in, and also plugging the adapter first, then plugging the cable into the adapter. It would talk for a few seconds, then say Charging Stopped, and $0.00 billed. This location seems very new and the connectors were very tight.

There are Electrify America DC chargers in the next row, so I moved over and tried those. 2 out of 6 broken lol. Typical for EA AFAIK haha. Anyway, these have been here a while and the connectors are worn. It slipped right into my adapter. It took a couple of tries to get it to stay well connected, but I was able to start the charge and let it go for a bit while I went to the restroom. When I came back, I noticed that it seemed like it hadn't charged much at all, but it had charged me for more kWh than I expected. I charge to 80% at home by default, including this day. It said I had used 27.1 kWh so far that day. The EA screen and my screen said I had just charged ~30kWh, but instead of being at 80%, I was only at 71%. I started charging at 46%. Either way, it seems to me that I didn't get 9% of the expected charge based on kWh's ingested.

Any thoughts as to why this would be? I so rarely use Superchargers, but don't remember ever noticing this kind of discrepancy at a Tesla charger?

46% to 71% is a 25% increase... 25% of 123kWh is 30.75kWh. We don't have to a couple decimal points resolution, so that could vary a bit (up to 32kWh). Then DC fast charging is not 100% efficient. 95% is about as good as you can get... at the face value of 30.75kWh, that would be 32.37kWh delivered. Even at Tesla you get charged for what is delivered to the vehicle, not what is put into the battery.

TLDR all is normal.

They charge for the kW dispensed, not the amount added to the pack. The difference is transmission losses.

I don't understand where your 9% number is coming from.

As mentioned previously:
71-46=25% * 123 = 30.8kWh net 32.6 gross = 94.5% delivered
1.8kWh lost to efficiency, climate control, and truck systems.

Versus:
80-46 = 34% * 123 = 41.6 kWh. The 27.1 kWh drive stat doesn't include energy used while parked.

The 9% is coming from starting at 80% in the morning, and ending at 71% after charging. I didn't use 9% parked, more like 2%, if even that. So that would leave 7%.

Yep, I figured that was the difference between the 32.64kWh they charged me for vs. the 30kWh the car shows added.

I'll have to try it again then. I think my initial suspicion, that the brand new adapter and almost new DC charger didn't fit together because it was so tight, was probably the reason. I didn't see NACS cables at this location, only CCS.
