Tight D-rings?

Don't listen to the techs that say if you loosen them up, it will not make a difference, they are wrong. Been dealing with this since the truck was new, 14 months and 39000 miles now. They replaced four of them and same deal. I had enough, got out a 10mm allen key and loosened them up half a turn, and bingo! The move freely and the bed is still tight. There are 6 other bolts holding the bed in place and they are all as tight as possible. This was such a big deal for me, trying to strap bicycles, 58 gallons of fresh water tanks, furniture and so many other items and I could not even budge them without a screwdriver or bar. They were ridiculously tight.
Now I just have to try to adjust the rails to fit the bed dividers...ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE in the bed instead of ONLY the last holes in the front of the bed or over the trunk.

Mine are too. I’ve lubricated them and messed with them in all sorts of way. You’re saying to just loosen the bolt that secures them to the bed a half turn or so?

That's about as far as I had to loosen mine to make them easily movable by hand. My girlfriend took a video of me moving them but I have to edit it down to a very short video. I'll try and do that tomorrow.

I did the same a while back and can confirm. I couldn't budge mine at all without prying them. I loosened the nut a bit and you can move them with your fingers now. They must be cranking those things down at the factory.

Yes. The FS CT i had they were impossible to lift with your fingers. I bought them for my NFS Ct and installed them myself, and they have free range of motion and are easy to use, like the link of a chain. They are torqued way too tightly at the factory, likely to prevent them from rattling. The issue is they are not rounded out at the coupling, the corners are squared, so if they are too tight they will not easily come up.

One was already easy to move.
Two were easy after I loosened the bolt, cycled the ring a few times to free up the mechanism, then retighened the bolt fully with the ring at ~45 degrees to maximize interference .
Same process with the fourth, but it is a bit stiffer due to interference with the bed. Still hand movable with the bolt tight though. Could add a thin washer to have the best of both worlds.

This is great to know! My D-rings are super tight too.

So, sounds like a half turn to loosen them works AND won't compromise the load rating of the D rings nor the tightness of the bed.

I did not use a torque wrench but they are not loose they are pretty tight just loose enough for the d-ring to move I will grab my torque wrench this week and see what they are set to
