After leaving a Cybertruck deposit on November 22, 2019 I was really looking forward to test driving a Cybertruck someday. Today was the day.

I was a bit disappointed that the drive was only 5 minutes instead of 30 minutes that was stated when I made my the online reservation. The rep apologized and said they have been trying to get corporate to change the test drive time behind the wheel.

Being a forum member and having a Model Y in the household for nearly 4 years I was already familiar with unlocking the vehicle, opening the door, pressing the brake pedal to turn on the vehicle, putting the vehicle into drive, engaging turn signals, etc.

Now to the test drive experience. The #1 thing that stands out is the steering. The SBW and RWS are absolutely amazing and must be experienced in person. The technology behind this magical engineering feat is what differentiates the Cybertruck from all other pickup trucks currently on the market. I now consider the old school Ram, Silverado and F-150 steering systems to be obsolete. Hand over hand turning is a thing of the past with the Cybertruck.

I was able to complete a u-turn during my test drive and I was super impressed. The tight turning radius is unlike anything I have ever experienced. Turning the steering wheel roughly half way to make a u-turn was a mind blowing experience. Hats off to the brilliant Cybertruck engineering team behind this state of the art steering technology.

The truck felt smaller to drive than I expected. It was nimble and I quickly forgot that I was piloting a nearly 224” long pickup truck. It was pleasure to operate on the road and I felt it would make an excellent long distance cruiser, especially with FSD and air suspension.

Some things I didn‘t care for were not deal breakers for me. I felt like the disappearing front end would be challenging when parking. Even though it comes equipped with a front camera you are guessing where the front end stops.

The A-pillar blind spots are definitely noticeable when driving. Having slimmer posts would be welcome but probably not possible due to engineering requirements. The triangular window is small but it does help with outward visibility.

The triangular side mirrors were on the small side. I wanted better visibility every time I looked at them during the test drive.

I have passed on all 3 of my FS invites. So, will I purchase a Cybertruck when I get the AWD Cybertruck invite this time around? It all depends:

-$79,990 AWD without $7500 tax credit (Maybe)
-$79,990 AWD with $7500 tax credit (100% yes)

Well, since that because of the batteries, it may not be getting the tax credit, your test drive was in vain.

The front camera, easily accessed by the button on the wheel, allows me to easily park within an inch or two of anything. The visualizations (which may not have been on the test vehicle) actually do a pretty good job. They do a great job of showing how straight you are in a parking space.

Oh, and your criteria on price, just admit it. it's yours the first chance you can.

The test drive was pretty convincing. I may change my mind after the invite arrives.

Correct on the $7500 tax credit. It’s definitely not happening this year due to Chinese sourcing of the 4680 battery cathodes. 2025 may be different, we will have to wait and see.

Without the front camera, the front end would be REALLY hard to judge while parking/maneuvering.

With the front camera, it's a non-issue. Super-easy to park.

Just get the darn thing already, haha!!

You may get use to it.
The rear camera shows if anyone is on your back corner, the side camera activates when you activate the turn signal, and the blind spot detection is good.
With FSD visualization, the display of lane positioning is also accurate.
