ding! ding! ding!

We have a winner.

Clearly the tonneau was refusing to move because it wanted a new calibration, although I cannot imagine why this was not indicated anywhere (not even the Service Menu).

To calibrate:
  • Truck Icon -> "Software" menu
  • Touch and hold "Cybertruck" logo for ~5 seconds (it will flash), then release
  • Enter the password "service" and accept the prompt to enter Service Mode
  • Touch "closures" then "tonneau"
  • Touch "calibrate" and follow the prompts

To finish, return to the main Service Menu and hold "Exit Service Mode".
Thank you so much for sharing this. Had a service request in and have not heard from Tesla in nearly a week. Got it to work again!

Does anyone have a recurring issue with this even after re calibrating? If I re calibrate, I can get it to fully close, but then as soon as i use it normally the very next time it stops short. Also my left side seems slight off by about 1/4th inch compared to the right side and doesnt have as tight of a seal

Exact same situation for me. I took it in for service and they didn’t change a think. I think I tinker with mine on my own. Too me it seems like the left hand motor is behind.

Have tried screen reset, complete power off. Searched for any sort of manual release ... nothing. I note online that others have had this problem but no fix listed...they had to take it in. Serial number in 3200 range 2 motor picked up on 032024. Never rolled it completely up and down ... so guess I have partially rolled it only twice. Not stupid enough to stand on it. If you know of a fix or way to at least close all the way...pls help. On way to Texas from Calif and rain expected. Tks.
Tonneau cover open 3 inches then locked up. Buttons not working. This now makes 3 SB and leaking and now non working cover. That is 5 events in less then 30 days. When people stop me and ask me "how do you like it" I have to grit my teeth smile and say great truck. If this keeps up I might have to take an unwanted action.

That sucks. Sorry. I had the same issue. Made a service appt where they fixed th issue but used the app to control the vault while I waited.

That being said, I gotta know what the “unwanted action” is… ???

Yup. Calibration doesn't help.

Mine is now refusing to close. Always stops every couple of inches. Opens just fine.

This works for me:
Open tailgate
Figure out which side is binding (slat gaps compress and it doesn't close as far)
Gently pull that side while it is closing
Close tailgate

I’ll try that. Mine does the recalibration just fine. But after that when I close it, it stops about 6 inches from closing and goes back a quarter of the way or so.

Yep, same here. Recalibration OK, actual operation not so much.
Service appointment next week.

My issue was the tonneau was not parallel. The right side lagged the left by a noticeable amount as it got closer to the end of closing. Service had to consult with engineering. They replaced the motors and one of the rails to correct it. They even wrote a tech article on it. Hopefully future trucks will come out better aligned. I had a loaner for 2 weeks. Since then it’s been rock solid.

My early April build has worked flawlessly from day 1 and I've beat the hell out of it off-road, walked on it, etc.

I think the person who installs it at the factory just needed to be taught how to install it straight. If it's not installed correctly, it passes the QC check at the end of the line, but starts messing up shortly after.

Great to hear. Mine is doing the same thing and has service appointment next week. Seemed like right motor is lagging so I need to gently pull that side with tailgate down to achieve closure.

I was doing the exact same thing to get the seal to kiss the tailgate.
