The ball joint above the front tire has a 4 sided flat that is for a wrench during assembly/ disassembly. Directly above the tire. It’s position relative to the tire is fixed but when you start to add taller tires the distance between the tire and the bolt decreases. You could just cut with a grinder.

questions. Sorry. I’m daft sometimes. With respect to the grinding, why do that if it’s truly fixed relative to the tire? Do we think that would interfere with any work assembly/disassembly that needs to happen in the future and by extension could this be grounds for Tesla to refuse to do stuff to the suspension under warrantee?
What does that bolt actually hold?

No real mechanical reason to shorten it. Just peace of mind I guess. It’s the ball joint it self.
Similar to this picture. The threaded area in the picture below that would be the 4 sided flat which was trimmed

An update on these tires for those of you looking. I have about 2500 miles on my Beast. Avg over that time is at 446 compared to 417 with all season stock tires. I drove 300 mile trip mainly 70-75 with about 50 miles or so over turnpike 80+ mph. Full self driving the entire way avg 473.6.

I got them too. Just a few days ago. Love these tires!

Sorry to post and vanish. It’s been a couple weeks and I really love the additional traction and feel. There is perhaps a tiny bit more road noise but in general they are better by a lot off road, and the small difference vs the Goodyear AT that were on there is fine with me. Also the extra size fits much better appearance wise and having no modifications other than cutting a few mm off the bolt bottoms was great. Even Tesla had a look when I brought my truck in last week for the tonneau waterproofing slat that was missing said they really like the look they give.
Fully recommend.

So am I correct in saying the difference in efficiency is actually probably maybe a little smaller than the car estimates because of the wheel size difference?
I’m making myself bonkers trying to reason through that in the car.
Still recommend the bolt trim if one does this?

I didn’t really notice much efficiency difference but I don’t watch it as closely as other folks I guess. For the bolts, I just saw other people did it and didn’t see any harm in quickly trimming all that excess off to give me some piece of mine. Tesla said it wasn’t an issue when I asked. If that helps.

That does help. Thanks for the recommendation.
Currently on the fence about getting some martians which would be 18’s but if I were staying with the stock wheel, I think its down to these or k03’s based on what I’ve read

I think the software may adjust for tire size automatically? I ran a gps Speedo on my iPhone and it matched the trucks speed. I did not trim the bolts. No issues over 2500 miles, no off-roading but few potholes/speedbumps

Have you ran these at all suspension levels and turning into uneven surfaces like driveway entrance or other bumps with no rubbing? Getting new tires this weekend and don't want to run into rubbing issues. Do you have the tesla mudflaps by chance? Wonder if they would rub? Thanks

All elevations or work fine. Off-roading up in the mountains and crawling over stuff where it’s gotta articulate is no issues. I have the mudflaps yes. It was literally plug and play compatible :)

I have had them a while. Tuesday I started driving in rain which became a blizzard and 4" of snow at my destination. They worked so good.

I used a portaband and it took 30 seconds per side to snip off. I will run hard offroad with reduced airpressure. I think untrimmed would rub doing that...
