If you can swing it, you’re better off selling it privately. I just sold my 2019 Model 3 LR AWD with 135K Miles on it for 23K. All other places were offering me 10-12k for it, including Tesla.
Did you sell to someone local or use a service? I have a 2020 same car same miles not getting anywhere close to 20k in offers.

I had it posted on CarGurus, AutoTrader, OfferUp, and I got about 0 messages from all 3 combined, but my son had me post it on Facebook Marketplace and I got at least a 100 inquiries. Couldn’t believe it. My car had some custom wheels, FSD, and acceleration boost, Mountain Pass Coilovers…so those extras helped for sure. The guy that bought from me suggested we use some service to complete the transaction I was hesitant, but it actually worked out and I was paid. I think it was called Caramel. First car I’ve sold privately. All trade-ins previously

Keep in mind, depending on your state's laws, trade in values reduce the purchase price which then saves you in sales/excise taxes. If your vehicle registration fees are based on the purchase price, it might also save you on that too, potentially for as long as you own the vehicle. (I heard that's how CA registration works).
When buying an ev with tax credit, is the tax credit applied pre or post tax?

Great to hear that you are loving it!

I'm in shambles here..My CT order is almost close to delivery date announcement and here I am...going to lose 20k in a year. Not sure if its a wise decision financially but I can't stop thinking about CT LOL
Just don't test drive the Cybertruck, after that it's all over!

If you're talking specifically about the CT, you won't get a tax credit at point-of-sale. But for the other Tesla models that qualify, Tesla applies the $7,500 off of the net cash price. Again, it depends on your states' sales or excise tax law if the tax is calculated before or after the $7500 reduction.

Sold my 2019 Model 3 AWD for $28.5k a few months ago on FB Marketplace. Probably got lucky on that one, but I think it's worth pursuing a private sale. And if you don't get any good offers within a week or two then trade it in.

Low ball offer :) for 2023 Model Y AWD LR 24k miles, they are giving me 26k. Thats how they value their own vehicles lol
Not how they value their own vehicles, rather they are trying to persuade you to sell elsewhere as Tesla really doesn't want to deal with trade ins and used cars that isn't their business.

I have a 2019 M3 with 78K, FSD, Acceleration Boost, carbon fiber body add ons for exterior and interior, body in mint condition, I did a full interior sound matting installation. I owe $24K and don't want to trade. I advertized to sell at what I owe. I found a few people interested in buying, but the banks are weird. They tell people that they cannot give them a car loan , but will give them a personal loan with higher interest because I don't have a clear title since I still owe the bank. I could pay it off and clear the title, but never heard of this before. Any suggestions?

PSA: Speaking from experience, don’t buy a Tesla if you are concerned with the resale value of your vehicle. (PERIOD)
Tesla / Musk, is working to ultimately to lower the cost of every vehicle. So, that theoretically means that very new vehicle is significantly less than the prior model / year which leads to lower resale values compared to the rest of the market. Of course, I could be wrong but so far I believe I am correct. (My 2017MS [FSD + USC] has trade in value of $10k {$18 private} from the $101k paid in 2017.)

That sucks. But think of it on their end. They can probably make a new 2024 Model Y for less that 26k so why would they want to buy a used one for more than that. You should try to sell it yourself.

For reference, we recently sold our 2021 Model Y LR with 53,000 miles to Carmax.

We received $25k. They were the highest out of 3 offers and they cut you a check immediately.
Also remember trade-in helps with the taxes on the total sale.

Not in CA. You pay the full county sales tax based on the purchase price of the new vehicle.
