My ‘74 Camaro was like that! I used to tell people I’d probably get further per gallon if I just poured it on the road and slid on it.
I had a 70's Datsun that burned so much oil, I figured I should just get 2-stroke oil and dump it in with the gas

Trump's new tax bill passed the house and below are it's impacts on EVs:

  • Kills the $7,500 tax credit for EV manufacturers that have sold more than 200k EVs (Tesla) at the end of 2025
  • Strips many solar and battery credits Tesla uses
  • Kills Commercial Clean Credit
  • Imposes $250 a year federal tax per EV to make up for loss of fuel tax
    • This would be in addition to your state tax (South Carolina has $250 per year)

Something to keep an eye on as it heads to the Senate.
Hate to see what would have happened if musk wasn’t his friend for the last year…

When every move is transactional “friendship” doesn’t enter into the picture.

I have an '81 RX7 that I've owned since the 80s and has been garaged since the 90s. It was going to be a project eventually... I even have a 'new' engine with actual new rotor housings (unobtainium!), sitting in the corner of the garage. But after the Model S arrived 10 years ago, my interest in ICE plummeted. I'm more likely to convert this to electric now.

But back to your oil comment. I actually carried two stroke oil and a monster syringe in that car to create mixed gas at the gas station. Best way to ensure the apex seals stayed lubricated!

I’ve already described EM as a “New Christian.“ He’s on the spectrum and does not understand people. He understands politics even less.
I've said many times over the years that being on the spectrum is what gives him his superpowers, which are his technical understanding, imagination and drive.

However, with his superpowers comes the inevitable vulnerability to Kryptonite. His Kryptonite is pretty much anything social. I fully expected Twitter to be a train wreck (and in my opinion, it was and is) and his forays into all things political are equally as awkward and inept.

Unfortunately, he seems to have little or no meaningful self-awareness. If he had, he would have remained in his lane and both he and the world would be better off for it.

Let me restate, EVs are typically heavier, but not always. We should have to pay some sort of tax, to help with road maintenance. I think $250 at a federal level is too high for the difference. But at some point EVs will be 90% or greater of the total traffic in the roads. The democrats should have got ahead of this, instead of giving tax breaks, now the republicans are going to tax way to much in EVs. We needed a middle ground on this.
Also I think (as in an opinion and not something there has been a test conducted) that EVs still do more damage to the roads, just due to the higher acceleration available.
I agree. In fact, I would think that eliminating gas tax and moving to a "mileage x weight x tax rate" would be the ideal way to ensure road maintenance is funded at the national level across all vehicle types. In the past, weight was pretty much not needed because heavier cars use more gas for the most part. My F-450 paid a lot more per mile than a Camry.

Why is everyone so concerned about charging for usage? By that logic, high MPG cars should pay extra, because they buy less fuel per mile (and therefore pay less tax).

What about all the tax paid by users of generators, lawnmowers, etc., should they get a refund?

Heck, Suburbans that get 4MPG should get a discount

A Suburban with 4MPG, would also cause more wear on the road compared to a Prius that get 50 MPG. And lawnmowers and generators should have no road-tax applied to that gas, trying to do refunds would be near impossible.

Taxpayer handouts for big oil: business as usual.
Taxpayer handouts for emerging energy technology: must be stopped.

I'm naively surprised about the anti-EV mindset in congress, as so many capital investments (factories, jobs, etc.) are in traditional "red" states.
Remember what is happening in CA. The anti-EV sentiment is not just GOP. Solar and EVs are under attack in CA, have been ever since COVID and Tesla plant wanting to re-open.

Things are escalating quickly, (sometimes I hate being so right). I wonder if any of those who were so happy about this "partnership" are able to see what a disaster this is, and it's just getting started.

I voted republican, but because of the $250 fee if it stays and passes, i will not in the midterms ,You're not gonna fk me over and get away with it, there will be repercussions for it. I fully understand taxes need to be received to pay for the roads, but not at 3x the gas average. $250 is way too high and should be around $90-95 . Schumer already forced them to remove the $20 gas reg fee, if the EV tax and that's what it is, is not removed, i won't vote at all in the midterms just out of spite. And you know, vance will lose my vote in 2028 if it still is in there by then. The $250 fee seems like it's being overlooked out of everything. It should not be $250 + state reg fees.
