The undergrill isn't the headlights. Those are fog lights. The true headlights are the extreme ends of the lightbar, where it angles up a bit. The middle is decorative.

The picture in your post is the prototype vehicle. And on that vehicle, yes the under grill lights are indeed the fog lights. They've clearly changed the configuration around a bit, because on the production (beta?) from the OP video, the under grill lights ARE the headlights.

And I've said this before, that in it's current configuration, I'm dubious how effective the actual headlights will be due to various reasons I've stated in a prior comment.

They will never make a diffused LED (which is what the front light bar is) the actual headlights, like you're showing on the prototype - no matter how bright they go - because the light beams have no direction due to their diffused nature.

Well Tesla HQ is just south of Stanford, and most of the sightings have been between the "new" design center at the old HP buildings, and the HQ, and of course Fremont. We spent the day just combing through all the carparks etc with our 12ft selfie stick out the side of a Tesla window (inconspicuous spy car!) and of course some drone shots. We saw the trailer rig they were transporting the CT on, but no CTs in the bay area on that Saturday. I had a gmap plan of the sightings locations and found most of the intersections etc where the CT pictures and videos were taken, but we couldn't really choose the day as we were on a schedule and only in cali for 8 days.

The day before we were actually in Santa Cruz down by the theme park on the foreshore, and then had a look at the Father and mother redwoods on the way up through the hills to Golden Gate/SFC(shame about the fire that went through the redwoods). We saw a couple of classic Porsches going for a spin up there, so obviously my oldest had to have a play with them in the MYP we were in (with all the luggage and 3 people). Straight aways were the bits we caught them, but corners involved some squeally tyres on the MYP, and some partially airborne bits . But given its weight and performance it done really well.

Was fun though looking for the CT, boys and I did our little spy missions, incognito, finding places to launch from etc and then obviously always travelling accross the ground behind buildings and tree line before going to altitude on the way there and back, just to mask our own location. Cool thing with the MY was you could leave the AC running and one of us could be spotter for LOS to the drone through the glass roof, which btw is also excellent for reception to the drone. Mini 2 pro is also nice an quiet at altitude and small, so you can't even spot it or hear it overhead, especially if you come in from the sun WW1 fighter plane style. ?

As Quantim pointed out they keep on changing the headlight locations. I read somewhere that apparently the headlights can't be mounted on a moving door/hood etc that can change angle, because of the regs around headlight orientation and blinding oncoming traffic. Sincewe now know that the hood lifts the grill as weel to open the frunk, they now also have to find a way to install the headlights so they conform, so having the headlights fixed and under the grill was the easy solution. But we might get matrix lights yet, that can b controlled individually.

I don't think we have seen the final front light design yet. My gut feel is that the undergrill lights will take on the role of low beam headlights, with limited high beam performance to conform to the regs. The top of the grill lights will then act as day time running/position lights and as supplemental high beam lights, like spot lights. This is not a bad design, in that having the lights low also results in less bugs on the windscreen, unless you of course have a over cab light bar on anyway. The downside with low lights is that their coverage is impacted by smaller undulations in the road and often they cast longer shadows over road imperfections, and can hide potholes better.

But ideally all of the lights should be matrix lights with individual actuation or at a minimum the top of the grill lights. That way the lights can be individually adjusted to create a evenly spread light pattern, and supplement the under grill lights as needed.
