There were 4 others on the lot waiting to be detailed. This is my first Tesla and I have to say the delivery was odd. The tech couldn’t answer most of my questions and I ask about actually driving it and he said just find the owners manual and good luck ?
Teslas are fundamentally simple to drive in spite of all the screen tech, but still that's very odd. I've never found the service center folks to be anything but extremely helpful. I hope you've had no problems.

They were extremely busy and their super charger was down so I know they were stressed. But I’m used to regular car dealers that will almost wear you out showing off all the bells and whistles. It wasn’t just me, somebody was taking delivery of a model Y and wasn’t given t much for direction either. He came within a couple of inches of backing into my truck before a tech ram over and asked if he needed help. About 20 min of driving with my 16 year old in the passenger seat figuring out the interface and we were good for most things. My drive home was about 2 hours and about halfway there I finally figured out the cruise control and that it was in chill mode. I went from “meh the acceleration is ok” to “ aaahhhhhhhhahahhahaahaha” in sport mode :) still calling yesterday a huge win and would do it all again in a heartbeat.

When did you get your MVPA? So you could send them funds. My connection at Verona said my truck was still in Texas on Friday, “sleeping”. Was coming up on Rail.

Are VINs assigned at the factory before shipment and at service centers?

Seems like some are getting VINs and then a quick delivery date. Wondering how that’s happening.

Variety of factors.

Sometimes the vin is not assigned until it's actually moving, which leads to ~7 day vin to showroom.

Sometimes the vin is assigned as the truck exits the factory, before it's actually in transit. This seems to be the case with mine, which was assigned 3/15 and is now not due to my showroom until 4/2 (previous estimate was 3/27, but as of today the truck has not left texas)

Sometimes a vin is assigned, then while the truck is in transit, that customer cancels or defers their order. The vin will then be reassigned to the next person at the showroom it's heading to while the truck is already part way there.

Sometimes a vin is assigned, then a customer rejects the vehicle, cannot get the financing together, is out of town for more than 3 days, etc. But the truck had already arrived at the showroom by that point. This leads to a vin being assigned to a new person and an almost instant delivery, because the truck is already at the showroom at the time of vin assignment.

There are other things that can happen as well, just a few of the possibilities.

Makes sense. Thanks!
