In the company I work for we also submit to NHTSA for VIN decoding specification. The time it takes to update VIN deciphering document (e.g. to add a single motor variant) only takes a few days. I would not rule out the possibility of cheap truck only because it is not currently defined in the deciphering document in the NHTSA database... Just one piece of comment
OK, I believe you. But I'm still skeptical about the chances for a single-motor RWD Cybertruck.

Tesla accepted reservations for the RWD version for years -- from November 2019, when the CT was first announced, all the way through August 2024. Then the RWD option suddenly disappeared from the CT order page, and nothing has been said about it since.

Tesla is normally happy to accept advance reservations for future products (as people who are currently waiting for the Semi, the Roadster, or even the CT Range Extender can confirm). Yet Tesla literally won't take your money for a single-motor CT reservation. That doesn't seem like a good sign.

Time will tell. Feature for feature the Cybertruck is very competitively priced. At the end of the day they made enough for me to get mine, and I expect it to be my last vehicle, so what do I really care how many they sell this year. Troy is just trying to get clicks and the best way is to say something outrageous.
Same here. Since it is very likely it will be my last new vehicle, (not being pessimistic, I'm 75 and kept my old F-150 25 years) why would I chose something mundane? ?

Indeed that is the kicker ... for lower volume vehicles it may take a little longer to get parts, insurance may not work out as well, less techs have good knowledge depending on how many they have dealt with in their neck of the woods, etc.
That sounds perfectly logical, but the sad fact is that the more Teslas have sold the worse the service experience has become. ?

Tesla will hold out on offering a less expensive RWD version until AWD sales start to trend downwards. This could take 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, etc.
