Last year at this time the Cybertruck was the best selling vehicle over $100K on the planet and by far the best selling full size E pickup. Looking back now Elon made the mistake of buying twitter and supporting a person that half the country hates. The left loved EVs and the right hated them and most Tesla owners were on the left.

Many of you here were bold (and lucky!) enough to snag a Cybertruck when it finally launched—and it’s been a joy sharing in your excitement, hearing your first impressions, and seeing the incredible ways you’ve personalized your trucks.

But I can’t help but wonder: What happened to the dream for the rest of us—especially the 2 million of us originally holding reservations?

I count myself among the passionate. I love the CT and still dream of owning an AWD version... someday... when it doesn’t cost $80K. I've ridden the full rollercoaster—from the hype and delays to Tesla’s ups and downs, and now the hope of a revival.

Based on recent developments, it feels like I’m still 2–3 years out from making my Cybertruck dream a reality. I’ve waited 6 years already, and while I try to tune out the noise (forgive them, Father, for they know not what they post ?), I’m also starting to wonder: will the industry shift again before I get there?

What if the future brings something even better?

I’ve been tracking the idea of extended-range EVs—electric vehicles with small, efficient gas engines that silently recharge the battery without powering the wheels. You get the performance, the range, and the peace of mind. Scout seems to be exploring this, and honestly, I think it could catch on.

Still, part of me hopes Elon and Tesla double down—bring the CT to market at $55K, sell 500k+ units during its lifetime, and prove that manufacturing excellence can make that future attainable. But time is slipping, and without something radical, I fear the CT might never fully live up to its potential.

That’s my two cents.

Now I’d love to hear from you: What happened to your Cybertruck dream? Is it still alive? Has it shifted? What does your future look like—with or without the CT?

No right or wrong answers—just real stories from a community that’s been on this wild ride together.

... and if you're wondering, here is my last mental pic of how my CT could look like, if I had one

I ordered the next day after announcement, then watched the factory being built. When they started pushing vehicles out the door, I checked my position in the queue: 410,000 would have to be built before I got mine! Then I saw a blog indicating that, if you were a stock-holder with 500+ shares for longer than two years, submit paperwork and you might be moved up a bit. I did it and two months later I got the email to complete my order. So, I've have my Foundation Series for a year now, and still love it!!

Own a 2023 Ferrari 396 GTB and a 2022 Porsche 911 Targa and a Corvette 2025 z06 and a 2006 Chevy HD2500 truck. My cyberbeast is faster than all these cars. It is roomier inside. I never waste time in gas stations. Just plug it in at night, a/c is better than these other cars and the stereo is absolutely the best in any of my cars. Interior room for me at 6’2ā€ and 250 lbs is wonderful- finally a car I fit inside comfortably. I watch YouTube while my wife shops - she does the same when I am in Home Depot. Seats are comfortable. Perfect for bringing home anything I don’t need that I buy at Costco. Smoothly on the road and the self- driving feature really does work and Tesla upgrades the system at least once every month. Navigation system is better than any in these other cars as well. Screen is huge. Drive by wire and rear wheel steering is fantastic. The fact that liberals hate the truck and it annoys them is a huge plus as far as I am concerned. I just honk my newly downloaded air horn which makes them even more annoyed. I think the stainless skin is dumb- I would use aluminum and simply paint the vehicle already. Too hard to keep the raw stainless looking really pretty. I would think painting a steel or aluminum body would be cheaper than the stainless. Goes off road, has various ride heights as well. My wife had a porsche 2023 panamera hybrid that was a wonderful car but she prefers driving the cyberbeast. Did I mention the cameras taking video of lookylous and finally dog mode. My dog loves that she can go with us when we go to restaurants and sleep in the back seat and we watch her on our Tesla app. . I get updates on features all the time and even added features. I used my PowerShare credit to buy the cyber tent a week ago - how much fun is this thing. Grandkids love to sleep in it at home in the driveway. I don’t haul 1,000 of bags of rock in the cyberbeast like I do in my HD2500. - but then my HD2500 rides really rough on the road and needs gasoline and is not as comfortable as the cyberbeast.

I love our cyberbeast foundation and no complaints. Did I mention the really great service from the Tesla service center n my town? The young people working there are very helpful and responded to any small issues I have had and made repairs quickly and cheerfully.

Last - the darn car backs itself into parking spots at Costco — all by itself and same with parallel parking - my wife is in love with this feature. It is always entertaining and is a car with its own brain while my other cars are simply low in and stupid mentally.

I ended up selling the Panamera and lost more on that car than my cyberbeast has depreciated —— I drive the cyberbeast daily - and it is always fun and comfortable and I am always thrilled with all the features. I had to wrap the truck - in the color of my choice- for $4,500 - but I did get the color I wanted. And lots of after market parts and pieces -

Only guys really complaining about the truck and bad mouthing the design are guys that don’t own the vehicle and can’t afford it besides. Jealously is an ugly emotion. Get some counseling for that - or better just buy one already and stop worrying about the money. I paid $350,000 for my Ferrari and honestly From a sports car perspective, the cyberbeast is more fun on the road than the Ferrari. And I am a dedicated petrolhead - or I guess now - a battery head? I expected to get the truck - black mouth it to all my friends and then sell the vehicle. But still here 14,000 miles later. Bought off my $100 deposit. Even buying the car was fun and easy- all on my iPhone! No greasy cars salesman to deal with and their always insulting sales manager.

Love my cyberbeast, my wife loves it, and so does my dog and my friends who are also car nuts change their opinion when the darn car drives itself.

I updated the software in the truck from Paris France recently. Try that in a Ferrari or a Chevy truck.

It keeps the interior to a reset temperature - which is appreciated in the low desert where I live.

Oh yeah - the massive front windshield on a road trip makes it feel like you’re in front of your big screen tv at home -/ glass panel on the roof! Nice front trunk that opens when I walk up to the trunk. Appreciated storage compartment in the bed -/ lights in the bed, hold down strips in the bed. Lowers itself to allow egress and ingress. All the controls are on the screen and easy to find.

Goes into tent mode - leveling itself to the terrain.

Has a 220 and 110 volt plug in the bed.

Rides like a sedan and not like a truck. Trailer hitch included. Opening and closing articulated bed cover. Stereo is incredible- I think mentioned this also.

And the 300 mile range is more than enough. Every morning I wake up to a vehicle with a full charge of 300 miles - wife does not run out of gas any longer.

Doors open on a push button. Motorized glove box with a lock four digit code.

A brilliant car that reinvents many of the characteristics of past vehicles.

And so far - very reliable and no major issues.

That is my experience with this cybertruck ( best).

Best fun is putting my old buddies in the vehicle and then doing launch control and hearing them scream like a scared baby - after I warned them to not get too scared! The blood rushes back in your brain - really not a pleasant sensation. I even like the sound it makes - feels and sounds like a Jetson vehicle.

Great post!!! I’m so happy that Conservatives are 100% towards EV’s and it was their vision to make Tesla what it is now!!! You have done a great job at ā€œowning the libsā€

For me cost was nearly double what I would pay for. But as a retired person who designed things I could tell they allowed the styling and omission of key features to force asinine design choices. Since the vehicle was not going to be an exoskeleton or have ballistic glass there was no reason to use the cold rolled SS alloy they used for small arms protection. The panels are best hidden with a wrap as the alloy was optimized for work hardening rather ductility/corrosion resistance. They didn't consider that sharp edges and pinch points are far more an issue than a random 9mm round. They forgot to include wipers so they spent years designing an expensive, barely useful bandaid wiper system. The sails and lack of pass thru were known issue with truck folks and mentioned often but Tesla apparently had marketing blinders on. Really, and with a cybertruck owners club forum begging for these features.
It's simple, some bombastic CEO forced a juvenile dream on a great engineering team and we got subpar, overpriced with schizophrenic features.
Spoken like a true non-owner!

Plenty of ppl who have shit-tons of money wouldn’t own a CT if you bought it for them with your sofa cushion change, Lord Fauntleroy. Not everyone likes what we like.

Aren’t you the same guy who said you ā€œregretted buyingā€ a Z06? You don’t know the specs???? How many vehicles do you buy for performative political purposes?

You’d think they would learn. We do t care what you think. We have our CT’s in our hands. Sure we talked a lot of sales, it didn’t happen, who cares. It’s still the most desirable truck in the world.

Spoken as an ex-reservation owner and someone who followed CT closely. Look at the title of the topic. A CT owner would not the same outlook as a reservation holder who just said no to a bait an switch marketing ploy.
You can go back to my comments five years ago. I was interested in a $60k AWD with FSD to be the ultimate retirement vehicle. FSD has another 5-10 years and the vehicle price was nearly double when they notified me that my CT was ready.
So no deal.

Just leave this forum then. We don’t need trolls here. I’m tired of seeing people on here that don’t even own a CT. Go rant all your negativity on Reddit.

I was one of first reservation holder and finally got mine in last July and it’s a dream vehicle. Yes, they were a lot of reservations for it since majority thought a non refundable $100.00 is worth it yet when the time arrived for an aye or nay, they bulked at the price or they’ve decided not to wait. There were also quite a bit of reservations holders from around the world and they found out their country regulations aren’t the same standards.
In any case, I’ve got mine and most likely I’ll add a second one in the near future hoping my dear husband who loves to ride as a passenger will finally get his gumption high enough to dare to take it for a drive.

My Son was an officer on the USS Scranton (SSN-756) and you have my thanks and respect. I was active on this forum years ago and replied to a question regarding reservations owners. Everyone on this forum until recently had reservations or an interest in the CT and were not owners.

Humble yourself, self righteous entitlement doesn’t look good on you… so, seems this question seems to be directed towards the ā€œnon-ownersā€ so…don’t be so hateful and let them answer the original question.

ā€œWhat happened with the Cybertruck dream of the 2M reservation holders?ā€

My answer, another ten grand less and I will be there!

Aren’t you the same guy who said you ā€œregretted buyingā€ a Z06? You don’t know the specs???? How many vehicles do you buy for performative political purposes?

I don’t recall saying by I was disappointed in my z06 \•actually a fantastic car - as much fun to drive as my 2023 Ferrari 296 for 1/3rd the money. I love my cybertruck and it is super duper fast 0/60 and it sure feels faster than other sports cars. I was very disappointed in my 2023 corvette z51 - underpowered and crappy low rpm maximum level and that engine - push rod- was outdated when they were putting it in the c7.

Obviously you are a left kind of guy- and don’t like cybertruck because of politics and all your lefty fiends have the same opinion. Why are you on a cybertruck forum when you don’t own one and never intend to own one either? Just to spread negative comments about a car you have likely never even driven. I have a collection of top notch cars and I assumed I would hate the cybertruck and would sell it after a few months. But - my wife and I really enjoy the car and 300 miles is more than adequate / there are Tesla charge stations everywhere when out on the road - even n Death Valley. We plug it in at night- and in the morning it has 300 miles range which is three times what we need most days around town - never had any problem with the range. Only goofballs that have never owned a cybertruck get all worried about the ā€œrangeā€,actually I think it is amazing that the battery pack can hold enough energy to move this 7,000 lb truck for 300 miles. So go on the z51 forum and stop typing stupid things about the cybertruck which you know obviously nothing about. Worth every penny I paid for the vehicle — and I am a Porsche guy first than A Ferrari guy and also a corvette z06 c8 owner and very critical of cars and their design and performance - and I was pleasantly surprised by this revolutionary vehicle . I even can view the seven camera from France and change the charge status, update the software, see the cabin temperature and tire pressure and no extra costs for this access on the Tesla app and no cost for connection to the cell tower internet connection, I use the a acceleration getting on the freeway / in the cybertruck - when did you ever drive a z51 at 186 miles per hour?? My friend did take his z51 c8 to 150 mph and the car went into limp mode / dealer told him not a good idea the engine is not really made for such a high speed for any length of time. Only car I would run at over 120 mph is a porsche 911…

Less is always better (price wise) ! After waiting years since the reveal, I have been cross shopping Rivian R1S, Macan E and ICE SUV’s - Toyota LC and Lexus GX. After you factor in the fuel costs over a 5 year period, they all end up costing more! There’s no vehicle of equivalency at 69K anymore. Tesla FSD is years ahead of Rivian and Porsche. Finally with zero APR, pulled the trigger and glad I did. The best SUV, called a truck?

So go on the z51 forum and stop typing stupid things about the cybertruck which you know obviously nothing about.
Then you’re not the guy.

As for the rest, you presume too much and know too little. The old money conservatives and folks from the deep south I was referring to don’t fall into your deep delusion about what box ppl go into.

Enjoy your truck. Skip the
amateur mind reading routine. You’re laughably bad at it.
