Curious if the Cybertruck will have V2H like the Lightning? Thoughts?

Unlikely and yes and yes

Unlikely Tesla will have an automated/integrated V2H system like Ford’s “Home Integration System” - Musk has poo-poo’d them in the past, and it would complete with powerwall

Yes, if (when) CT comes with a 240v outlet, because you can install a genny plug and critical load panel in your home, and just plug the CT in like you would a gas powered generator

Yes, if (when) several 3rd party V2H integration systems start coming to market in the next year or two.

It won’t be too long before these are a commoditized product like home chargers.

Sieman’s makes the Ford product, and it’s not going to be as expensive, clunky, or Ford-specific forever.

Siemens. Sorry but I just retired from Siemens and had to do it :)

Let’s just say if you want an integrated solution from Tesla I would not hold my breath. As @cvalue13 mentioned, both Elon and Drew have been asked about this many times and have never been positive in their response.

With any such system the tricky part is switching out the grid, switching in the alternative power source, and conditioning the signal to match residential equipment requirements, and then to undo all of it to switch the grid back in again. A transfer switch. Then, if you have solar or a backup generator all of these have to be actively managed at the transfer switch. It isn’t a simple problem to solve.

Then there is the question of whether it is even a good idea but you have already decided that do the point, in your case at least, is moot.

Funny, because that last e is the part I usually CAN get right (I’m otherwise always swapping that initial “ie/ei”)

It's not difficult, and Tesla has done it in the past. Of course, that was on the Roadster and not many supercars are used as backup power sources.

I think they should. I think they will, eventually. It'll probably require a Powerwall to manage it.

I hope they don't drag their feet, like they have so far. The Cybertruck will have a big battery and will be a utility source. But on the other hand, the V2G CCS protocol isn't complete yet. So they have an excuse.

Not sure on reliability but acording to eledtrek this is already built into the vehicles and i think the new wall chargers they just don't have the options in software to turn it on/off

You don't need a Tesla solution, and noone really needs V2H, just V2L and home side equipment that can utilize V2L. Sol-Ark 15K and now EG4 18K have generator inputs that blend with solar and battery, pass through a 200 Amp grid service (no critical loads panel needed), do auto-islanding, etc. Imagine the vehicle is like AC coupled 24 hour solar panels at that point. The only thing you miss with this solution is the auto-changeover to vehicle feeding the home. Which is why you have fixed storage for about one overnight's worth of loads. So your freezer stays on while you sleep, you wake up and check your home power panel like you do every morning, go oh no grid today, I guess I'll plug in the second cord to the vehicle today after all.

Or @SolarWizard can tell me if I'm completely out in left field.

No solution is perfect.

A college janitor turned off a freezer in a lab to silence 'annoying alarms,' but destroyed $1 million in scientific research in the process, a lawsuit claims
Sawdah Bhaimiya

  • A janitor destroyed $1 million in scientific research after turning off a super cold freezer in a lab.
  • He had heard "annoying alarms" coming from the freezer where over 20 years of research were stored.
  • The laboratory's university is now suing the cleaning company that contracted the janitor.

That was based off a misreading of the type of silicon used for the diodes. They're diodes, not transistors.

However, none of this applies to whatever Tesla is doing next. Nor does it have to do with using the connector as a DC connection.
