Windshield shattered while cleaning

The interior glass haze is understandable but it’s the glass itself that has a unique look. In certain light it’s not clear but has sparkles throughout it. Nothing I’ve seen before and I’ve been in the auto industry since I was young. Even when the glass was clean it wasn’t clear. ??‍

The glass on my CT isn’t very clear either. I wondered if other people had the same issue.

While cleaning the windshield with a brand new freshly washed microfiber cloth, the windshield spidered and shattered. Anyone else experience a weak windshield? This should be covered under warranty or a recall. Not happy at all.

I have a faint crack possibly on my passenger side I can feel from the inside but not the outside. Can’t see it as the driver but in the passenger seat it’s like half inch or so and looks black. I’m keeping an eye on it to see if it gets bigger. Not sure why it would be on the inside. Finger nail can detect a high/low spot so I suspect the inner somehow cracked. I can’t get my phone to focus on it so hard to take a photo.

Report that pronto. The date of a warranty coverage is set to the date you report it; not when they repair it or see it or whatever.

Also the earlier you do that, the less likely you'll have a rock strike that makes it look like it was caused by it rather than vice-versa.

...And if you can't focus on it, see if you can try a different focal mode, or hang a sticker on the window next to it for the camera to focus on. Or worse case, find a friend with a manual camera that can focus on it for you.

Did you put your body weight on the windshield while trying to clean the middle section? I don't mean it should shatter even you lean on it, just trying to give us a idea how it happened.

Even if he did, Iv seen people walking over the windshield. But I can see where someone is reaching to the center and bodyweight falls on the windscreen.

What's the actual thickness of the Windshield?
Was wondering if those magnet cleaner tools would be 'safer' to use?

Update: I took it into service and their glass tech looked at it and immediately said it was defective. He said I’m the 4th truck that he’s seen with this issue. They are covering it under warranty and supplied a loaner. While this is not ideal, they made it right and I am very happy with Tesla service.

They rang up my quote as $2670 or so but I’m out until Oct 2nd.

Mine was really bad when new, especially when parked in the sun. 5 months later and it's down to almost nothing. But it's been parked with the windshield facing south most of that time.

I think the soft touch trim on the AWD has a bigger problem off gassing. The fabric wrap on the CB dashboard must contain it. I have had my CB parked outside for 6 months since new and have yet to feel the need to clean the inside of my glass.
