This neither shows how much of the door assembly must be removed to get at those bolts/connector, or what accessory parts must be ordered in order to plug the resulting rain-facing gap in the SS panel that results from this removal


everything is removable

nothing about this drawing shows that 3 bolts takes it off and “That’s it ”

Well the door panel seems to be two parts, and the upper part is like just clips:

I seem to remember some square pieces of plastic covers in the glove box of one of the videos. Maybe it's that.

I agree. This is nowhere near "easy to remove". I have pulled the entire interior out of a car before and this is pretty much in line with every other car out there. Plus your point about the 3/4" x 2" gap left in the horizontal exposed face is interesting. Not necessarily hard to plug if you have a 3D printer or CNC equipment. But if they don't offer a plug, 99.9999% of people will struggle to plug and seal it. So its NOT easily removable.

Still need a nice cover panel or something. Or else there will be exposed holes and a cable sticking out

haha yeah, that looks pretty much like any other side mirror and how it would be mounted to the door. taking off interior panels, while not extremely difficult, is not 'VERY easy'. Many people, if it's their first time, will probably break some of the plastic clips off by mistake

Edit: I'm with gregger here. It appears to be very easy to access. I doubt you'd even need to completely remove the door trim, just that top corner.

This is exactly it. Sorry for my delayed response here. This is exactly where it is. There’s a little shroud over it.

Thieves could easily jack the mirrors if the mounting screws were accessed from outside of the door.

The plastic wheel flares pop off easily but I don’t see a resale demand for those.

But showing me where the three bolts goes after the relevant trim is removed (or shown in cutaway in the diagram) doesn’t do much for me except confirm that three bolts mate each to a hole.

Meanwhile, maybe that single piece of trim *is* easy to come off, eg the belt line assembly (part #11 under front door trim) - though personally it’s not clear that that piece isn’t stacked under other trim lips that first need removal

Regardless, the point of my response to the OP’s tweet - that it only takes three screws to remove the sodeviews, I feel stands:

other trim must be removed, too, and meanwhile one still needs to show me the part number for the made-for plug that covers and weather-seals the large gap in exterior SS panel resulting from removing the mirror assembly


like I said before, anything can be removed. But to make it sound like one needs only a phillips screwdriver and 1 minute, and no other accessory parts, I think misleading

TO ADD: while this diagram doesn’t show the trim (or trim layers) involved in accessing these three bolts, it *does* show the resulting void in the stainless steel panel that would result from removing the mirror assembly - which absent some plug/trim accessory would catch both rain and all runoff from the passenger window above it


the epc’s miscellaneous sheet doesn’t show this part/accessory

but this epc also does not yet appear to show all current parts/accessories,maybe only those on the Foundation at the moment

So in Oregon, the law states there must be a mirror on each side of the class A or B vehicle.. there should be an after market mirror attachment that technically has a mirror but it so miniscule so as to pass as a mirror but hardly noticeable and thus would use the cameras in real life (gaining the up to 5% range the mirrors take away - per Elon). Thoughts? In Oregon is just says a “mirror” that helps you see. No dimensions
