Hence all the straight steel underneath holding the pieces in place!

If this is real, it's amazing. Alas, there's a stamped sheet across where the midgate would be.

-Crissa
Crissa, my bet is that sheet is part of the aluminum casting. Their goal is to cast the entire vehicle one day. I really think it’s part of the casting. I can’t quite wrap my head around how they could cast it yet, but I also couldn’t see how they could cast the model y front and rear either. It’s really magical.

The only difference between 2 rear casings and 1 are the cost and manufacture time. They would essentially be the same strength, one casting would just be quicker/cheaper.

The problem is that it's going to look awful if that is painted.

If you look at the renderings it never seemed cavernous. It's still possible but I have doubts it will be there in the production version, unfortunately.

Great illustration, I think you have the rear wheel well and the tailgate too high though.
Mark my words. It will have the sail pilar storage. There looks to be about a 6ā€ horizontal gap between the strut support and the rest of the cast which is enough space for storage.

The megacastings are not visible in this image, the larger one goes below the bed.

No one said the inside would be stainless.

-Crissa
Everything in black behind the rear wall is one giant casting. That’s why they waited for the 9000 ton press. There is some overspray from the white powder coating.

I doubt that the crossing piece without circles in it is aluminum.

It is not 'one giant' since it's a bunch of separate pieces and the gigacasting machine isn't yet installed. There's nothing under where the bed goes or the front firewall. That's where the gigacastings go in the other Models.

Wrong. The entire structure of the truck is exoskeleton which is just another way of saying "unibody". What sets it apart is most unibody vehicles are not as heavy-duty as this.

This is likely a test rig to measure deflection of the subframe without the skin attached. By applying specific loads to specific points, and measuring deflection, they can calculate how much load the stainless-steel skin will be taking and adjust the castings and stampings to suit.

The white paint is likely to assist optical sensors and or cameras that record the deflection. It's a just a tool for fine-tuning the stiffness of the structure and it's a work in progress.
Wow that’s a big guess

The powdercoating is different than painting the exterior of a vehicle. I wouldn't expect zero paint on any vehicle.
I agree.

There were a few people who expected absolutely no paint at all. Stamped stainless instead of high strength steel for the door pillars.

Please stop with the nonsense! This is never going to be an actual Cybertruck! You have no idea what kind of metal is under that paint either. Stop pretending you know. One of the biggest advantages of the Cybertruck is the chassis doesn't have to be put in the zinc dunk tank or paint shop. That saves a ton of money. This is just a production or test jig of some sort.
You are wrong. This is the CT and every piece you see here is probably 99% accurate for what will be the in the final version. It’s a coated high strength steel inner body with front and rear aluminum castings and will have a structural battery wrapped in coated steel. Just like they make the new model y with the exception that the CT will get a stainless exoskeleton instead of a painted body.

I’m not quite understanding the lack of understanding of perspective in this thread? :p

I’m no Michelangelo, but the positioning of the rear castings seem to line up perfectly with the rest of the frame. If anything, the most rearward vertical pieces are a couple of centimetres lower to allow spacing for the external bodywork.
It does. Most of the old folks on here are due for a prescription lens update. Try not to judge them. And they like arguing. When the first CT rolls off the assembly line and shows up on this forum people are going to claim its not the CT.

How would two castings with a giant break in the bulkhead be the same strength as one monolithic rear casting. Here is the truth and Munroes reaction summed it up perfectly. The entire rear is one huge casting and people are in such disbelief and can’t even fathom that that they are looking for an alternate explanation. Well, sit down folks because guess what. Elon delivered on his promise and idra came through. ITS ONE BIG ASS CASTING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAB TO THE REAR. That is partly how the CT is going to save cost on fabrication. Munroes first statements. It’s more revolutionary than he imagined and it’s one big casting. This is the future of how vehicles will be made.

Crissa, how are you thinking that this is not the giga casting and that there is some future giant casting missing here.
I have been making the assumption that the cyber truck frame(s) that are in the picture, are one offs.
They are not casted, they were milled, hand made, etc.

It appears that the Cyber Press is just now making its way to Austin. Only other option would be I guess is that they could have setup the Press somewhere else first. But I dont think they would have done that.

Just adding my two cents (or nonsense) to the discussion.
Doing a quick overlay of a 3D model (Thank you Lizard_FPV) and trying to do a camera match without being certain if anything in the frame is square, level, or parallel with anything else in the scene...
Cybertruck Body Overlay.jpg

...it doesn't line up perfectly, but is close enough to convince me that the photo is legit.
This drawing is very helpful for the discussion.

Your perspective is off. The top of your red outline on the body already doesn’t line up with the roof. This is the real thing.
Can you fix it for me? I have no idea what i'm doing

Everyone saying looks like two rear castings is making stuff up. Point to one part of this image that shows a break or two castings. There’s isn’t one. That’s why they brought in the giga press. It’s what we have been waiting for. It shipped in October ready to assemble and use and we are seeing the result of that. This is very likely the final version of those castings. And this is the version they will be doing the testing on.
We are not seeing the result of the GigaPress. The spot for the GigaPresses at GigaTexas is devoid of any 9k Ton press as of this morning when Joe Tegtmeyer flew his drone for an early morning look in the windows. While the 9k ton press is NOT assembled on site yet, it IS possible to sand-cast limited production parts reasonably close to production spec. However, the rear casting is NOT in the picture of the body in white as the rear casting supports the motors and associated gearing.
