It’s an optical illusion.

The photographer is much lower than the roof of the truck. You are looking down the line made between the camera and the peak of the truck which is why it looks flat. The top of the truck is probably 3+ feet higher than where the camera is though.

Our brain expects squares. Trapezoids and triangles screw with our heads.

It appears to be one lower casting and four castings near the top for a total of five prototype castings.

Judging by the photo and Elon’s optimistic timelines I say that Tesla is a year away from Cybertruck production. The team has TONS of work left.

Was this one photo taken last week, or last year?

Summer 2023 production? No way it’s happening.

Sorry all, just being realistic.

Why do you keep saying that?

We didn't even have a picture this detailed of the Austin Model Y body in white nine months before production.

It’s almost certainly not a single cast piece. Munro certainly didn’t give that impression.

The shape of the part is extremely complex for a cast piece. They need to be able to remove the form from the cast piece and that does not look possible with those tall sides and complex interior pieces.

I’d guess the final is at least 3 major pieces. Either 2 big side pieces and something for the base, or a big single casting for the base with 2 pieces welded to the top for the vault walls.
True if everything you see in that picture becomes part of the final casting. From looking at that piece I am not convinced that all of what we see will be in the final casting. There are too many aspects that I wonder about to enumerate here. It will definitely be a challenge but that is what Tesla does.

That's better than what Henry Ford put in every car for free.

Yea, it was actually December 27th when the dummy bodies showed up. Randomly re discovered that this morning.

I've run the photo through some image sharpening software. It can introduce artifacts so be careful when disseminating it to identify it as modified.
1670712585483_s66qji_2_1.jpg

There are several areas that I think show that it is not a photo.
1. The arch in the frame forward of the passenger wheel well is not duplicated on the driver side. The box in that arch appears to have been smudged in.
2 . The wheel well on driver's side is not a wheel well. It has a plate at the bottom that makes it useless as a wheel well
3. This CT has a floor of grey fog in the cabin.
4. The first shop pillar on the right has an artifact interrupting it's line.
5. The sign that says powder coat is digital print. It is not native to the picture. This could be an artifact introduced by the software
6. The rear angle plates of both wheel wells are smudged at the margins. They appear to be added. They are not identical and strangely more detail is visible on the one that is on passenger side even though the driver's side is front and center.
7 the cast frames do not attache at the cab at the same height.
8 the scaffold is of center on the sled rails. The cross bar is floating above one rail
9. The sled rail on passenger side is obstructed by a plate of 1 inch steel
10. The body is off center on the scaffold.
11. The whole cast side frame is nonsense and makes very little sense. Such a large rail to transfer stress to a glass window frame. That large of a casting would not be necessary.
Spot on. Not to mention. Drivers front side sled rail support should be on the outside like in the rear. Should be about where the dudes left shoulder is. And what's up with the gap on the back support. And is that a flimsy floor the rails sit on? Not for walking on.
