We have been waiting a long time for our CT's. I am now getting anxious to receive my notice for configuration. If they start to manufacture in the second quarter don't you think they would be getting the first 100,000 -250,000 configurations finalized. I hope to get something soon after the first of the year as I am not getting any younger.

Traditionally - in the other models pre-release - they didn't put your number into the configurator until they thought they'd get to your number in three to six months.

It took the six months to make ten thousand Model Y. But now, three months after that, they're making 3k a week. In another six, they'll be making 5k, hopefully, and can focus on the ramp for the Cybertruck.

What @Crissa said.

Also, I’d expect we’ll see beta trucks out well before the config tool launches.

In my head, I think we still need to see:
  • Gigapress cranking out castings. First we’ll see test versions in dumpsters or stacks in the casting area.
  • Texas 4680 production… unless they are going to launch the truck with cells from Fremont which seems weird and won’t scale.
  • Beta Trucks. Maybe before the other 2 are completed, but we‘ve only seen a couple test trucks which were hand built prototypes. The beta trucks will be largely made the way the final are but with some hand assembly.
I suspect only after we’ve seen those things I think will there be a final reveal and customer config. I think perhaps less than 3 months before deliveries start, if only because the market is in such a weird place they may want to wait until the last minute to release pricing.

We’re within smelling distance of that gigapress.

We’ve seen a beta truck being assembled (or something).

The 4680 production in Texas is still a giant black box. Hopefully we’ll get some flavor soon. If nothing else, there is an earnings call next month which should add a lot of flavor to all of this.

Joe's flybys have been showing stacks of battery packs stored inside the factory.

It's so hard to know what they're doing with the batteries. Cycle life testing? Building up a store to allow longer processes to catch up?

?‍♀

Yeah the backlog of batteries is odd. Not clear if they were made in Fremont, shipped to Texas, or if they are being manufactured in Texas and stockpiled. Might just be 2170 inventory which hasn’t been assembled.

The status on the 4680 lines is a black box right now. You still can’t purchase a 4680 Model Y directly from Tesla in any straight forward way.

At the rate by which Elon is distracted, we might have to put our Cybertruck reservation and the $100 deposit in our last will and testament.

It's not like he's working on the truck personally.

You might be taking me and yourself too seriously. It's supposed to be a joke (as most of my posts are anyways).

But yeah, the prevailing working atmosphere at Tesla that now seems to be confirmed at Twitter is that if things only gets done when Elon is looking over their shoulder.

It's quite likely the stacks of batteries are 2170s from Freemont. I don't see why they'd build a 2170 assembly line at Texas if they are phasing them out. More likely, they are taking the excess capacity from Freemont and building up inventory so they can keep up with Model Y production until they get the 4680 line running fast enough to keep up with Cybertruck and Model Y production.
