If Tesla let you pay to move 1 year closer to delivery. How much would you pay?

What is the maximum you would pay to move your delivery date 1 year forward

Assuming for a moment that there was a legitimate option direct from Tesla to upgrade your timing by exactly 1 year (or for those who are less than a year to move to the first couple months).

How much would you be willing to pay and could afford to pay? Keep current interest rates in mind.

I’m sure position in the queue makes a pretty big difference here.

PS ALMOST ZERO CHANCE THIS HAPPENS. This is 100% hypothetical.

Interesting hypothetical. It largely depends on the final price of the CT, but I think I might consider 1-2k extra to get it early.

If I had paid $1000 to get the truck a year ago I don't think I would have any regrets today.

Depends on your estimated position in the reservations tracker and if Tesla follows the reservation number (have trim position < 2500).

Just saying: nobody’s ever seen @Ogre and @***** in the same room together

funnily, I’d rather pay a person the extra $ for their CT than give Tesla more $

I don’t feel a whole lot either way about selling reservations. I just figured if you take away the weird gray market bits it makes it more interesting.

I am personally a bit surprised that so few people would be willing to pay to shuffle their spot up. I voted for $1k because it would essentially mean I’d get my truck on launch night. It would be cool to be one of the first 100 or so in Oregon.

I’m still thinking on it, but am hamstrung in my emotional eagerness to spend even hypothetical money by a recent career change and more recent new baby. But a year ago? Woulda been spending big hypo dollars.

Being one of the first CTs around would on balance be cool - but not without its downsides, depending on how center of attention one is comfortable being.

I was one of the first few Lightning’s in Texas, and even though few can tell the difference against an ICE F150, the first few months were still a certain level of ambassadorship.

With the CT, it’ll be celebrity-level attention for quite a while.

I’d tolerate it if given the chance!

I rely on the stock price being higher than what it is now.

As a retiree, I travel, so it's a matter of spending 6 months somewhere else instead of on the road. I can be patient... just means the portfolio will be hopefully healthier the longer it goes.

I am 18-24 months after deliveries start by my estimate. One month makes so little difference even $10 is not worth it.

Well I said moving it forward a year. Which would put you in a truck around June of next year.

Totally agree moving the date forward a month would be pointless.

Right a year gets me closer but that still leave almost a year to go. SO not really that much better.

I think it's Not a very realistic question because such an option would be counter productive for a few reasons:

1) Tesla would never do it because it would make Tesla appear greedy to exploit people with money and temporary phases of impatience or emotional weakness. In more accurate language, it would make Tesla it's own internal 'Scalper'.
2) It would cause serious resentment from customers who were legitimately in line and are suddenly having their delivery dates pushed back because someone else is paying Tesla to bump them, so they'll think of Tesla as more of a 'sellout' instead of being focused on the mission of sustainability. So this type of manipulation could damage the Tesla brand.
3) Such an option is very wasteful financially, because one would be paying more money for an earlier model without the more recent refinements. Not all updates will be software, as some refinements will be later implemented as better manufacturing techniques, or other small hardware improvements, suspension tuning, possible updated battery configuration, etc. Getting earlier VINs has the risk of more defects or fit/finish problems not yet resolved in a manufacturing ramp up as well, so why would anyone pay even more money for such a risk?
4) If one has that much money that they're willing to throw more of it away just to be 'early' or 'first' to have a Cybertruck, they could just offer to buy someone else's delivered Cybertruck and pay them the surplus, as some people would be willing to sell theirs. Many who got multiple reservations, did so for those very reasons. But again, it's not wise to pay a lot more just to get a Cybertruck early, because this is what enables scalpers, and 'being first or early' to take delivery is a very short lived emotional fix.

I have a fairly early reservation and I'm actually not thrilled about it. Taking delivery early means possibly a less refined VIN, and requiring the money earlier which is more of a financial burden. Taking delivery later allows time to save or prepare financially, while also having peace of mind that more refinements from production ramp lessons, will have had time to be integrated.

In my opinion, earlier VINs have enough of their inherent concerns, without also having to pay a premium extra amount on top as well. So for this and the other reasons mentioned above, I think such an option is a bad idea.

Agree with you 100%. I mentioned in the bottom of the pst that I thought it would not happen and your reasons are perfect example of why.

Mostly, recent conversations have gotten me wondering what the demand for reservation resale and truck flipping. I was trying just capture what people would pay to get bumped without the negative connotations of the gray market.
