Tesla FanBoys get all twisted up in their underwear if someone says anything that is not Tesla for World Domination.

Ford has made some great trucks for the past 60-70 years. They do know what THOSE customers want. That includes people that tow a large RV, large boat, go up into the mountains, use it for renovating their house, take long trips, etc.

The Cybertruck IMO will trickle out in 2024 and have no impact on Ford F150, F250, F350 and F450 sales. Or Ford's commercial vans. Will the Cybertruck steal sales for the new Ford Lightning in 2024? Probably not. lf you don't already have a reservation for a Cybertruck, your only option for an eV pickup is going to be the Lightning.

The Cybertruck has to fill a lot of existing orders, which will take until 2026 at least, then after thta they might be competing for Ford Lightning sales. But by then Ford's Gen2 Lightning will be out. Which will undoubtably be favored by some just based on looks. There are still plenty of people that will never buy a CT based solely on it's "ugly design". I think there is room for Cybertrucks, Ford Lightnings, and ICE F-Series trucks. There are many different use cases.
oh the CT will impact Ford sales..... have no doubt about that. I would have bought an electric Ford years ago if one was available... but they screwed the pooch and only acted when it became an existential problem - so Tesla gets my hard earned $ now.

How long do you think you will have to wait?

I placed a reservation for a Cybertruck November 2019, but I don't expect getting it before fall of 2025, based on Elon saying the ramp would go slowly at first.

In the meantime I am pleased with my current EVs, and my TSLA stock.

I'm honestly surprised you can be so deluded. Maybe this is Gordon Johnson's secret Cybertruck trolling account. What the tesla detractors do not understand despite all the evidence that comes in day by day, month by month, quarter by quarter, year by year, and decade after decade, is that tesla is not trying to corner the EV market, they are trying to corner the automobile market. The Model Y and Model 3 are respectively the number 4 and number 10 (not 8, sorry, mistake) best selling cars in North America so far this year (https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g43553191/bestselling-cars-2023/) despite being cars selling at a price point in the luxury range. And in other countries the Model Y is *the* best selling car. To think that the Cybertruck will be just scratching out a living in competition with the Ford Lightning without cannibalizing F150 sales (not to mention other pickup sales and other kinds of vehicle completely) is absurdly delusional, unless there is some unforeseen problem with production or some design flaw we do not yet know. This vehicle is going to destroy other manufacturers. It's going to put companies out of business.
I guess the substantial TSLA stock I own has made me delusional. As well as the Tesla and Lightning I own.

In the meantime, today the US DOT thru a program designed to finance futuristic energy businesses is issuing a conditional $9.2 billion loan to Ford Motor Co. for the construction of three battery factories.

Ford has said it would spend $11.4 billion, along with South Korean battery manufacturer SK Innovation, to build three battery plants — two in Kentucky and one in Tennessee. Through a joint venture called BlueOvalSK, the two companies are aiming to build out enough capacity to supply 129 GWH of capacity each year, which would be enough to power 2 million EVs annually by 2026. In 2022 Ford produced 132,000 EVs, so Ford's growth in EVs looks to be just starting. Much like Tesla circa 2017 (Tesla sold 103,000 vehicles that year).

so okay then why are you saying such dumb things, like that CT will be competing with the F150 lightning or the Chevy ev or whatever? That just misses the whole point. CT will be competing with everything bigger than a Ford Escape, it will be eating the sales from all the ice vehicles that are SUVs or pickups and unless there is some problem we don't know about or unforeseen impediment they are just going to sell every one they can make for maybe 10 years. It's going to get annoying seeing them on the road everywhere.

I think Farley confused a couple of things.

Yes, he knows his market for his truck buyers. The problem is HIS truck buyers aren’t EV buyers. It takes a different mindset to think about “pickups” and then think “Electric”. His company dominates ICE Trucks. And his customers want ICE Trucks. His core wants DIESEL trucks. Heck, even some of the gas buyers wish they could afford the diesel ones.

Those aren’t buyers that are easily (if ever) converted to “batteries”. Some will consider it. I think the ones that will consider an EV (open to new ideas) will also be open to the Rivian and the CT. It may be a short lived life for EV trucks that look like ICE trucks. It may be that those open minded shoppers WANT something new, beyond just the drivetrain. And in my opinion, I don’t think Ford has a solid grip on who those people are and what they want.

I can tell you from MY perspective (never owned a truck, never considered it, never owned an EV, will convert my CT deposit to an order), If all I had to choose from were the trucks out now, I wouldn’t be interested at all. Not a second or even first thought. But that is consistent in my mind. Ford hasn’t made an affordable car (the GT and GT40 weren’t affordable to most including me) that caught my attention. Not in all the years since I bought my first car. But they have made a butt-load of vehicles that I have hated, that have proven to suck out loud, that 5 years later look like $%#+ on a stick, that over-promise and under-deliver.

So Ford may know THEIR customers, but they don’t know even MOST of all the customers.

excuse me!?

here, FIFY:

Heck, even some of the gas buyers wish they had any colorable excuse to buy the diesel ones.
I don’t own mules anymore, but if I did, a perk would be the need for a 350/3500 truck

CEO of Ford says rival truck won't appeal to Ford's customer base. What a shock.
That's OK. We love the CT because we are modern people who enjoy new things. Some people prefer style that are 80 years old. There are millions of people like us who don't like old and tired designs.

I have a friend that bought a gas Ford and complained he wanted the diesel, but it was too expensive. Not the first I’ve heard of it. Don’t get twisted. I didn’t say everyone that buys gas does so because their poor life choices prevent every one of them from affording a diesel. Nor did I say, the gas buyers are all wanna-be diesel buyers that are too unskilled to afford the diesels. I said ”some”…

It's not really about whether he's "right" or "wrong," by saying this Farley is attempting to brand the cybertruck as a pretentious vehicle, which bottom line is a smart move. F150s are for men, CT is for Steve Jobs and Elizabeth Holmes on their way to a wine tasting wearing black turtlenecks. Don't think it will work when the CT is apparently so badass when you see it in person (I haven't seen one in person) and when it can do all kinds of crazy stuff.

His attempt to brand it will work better if the CT is very expensive. Elon himself said he likes Ford's strategy with EVs.

If the CT is very practical and useful and relatively cheap then Ford is f*****. But if the CT is too expensive Tesla will only get limited market share imo.
'Relatively cheap' is a fair call.
In the Pick-up truck market, Tesla will position the variants to be THE compelling choice. Not too cheap, and not too expensive. Just Right ▶
Starting from $49,999 and upto $89,999 is my range for the 4 choices. ( Single motor may happen )
