Elon never said anything about removing the ramp and it was a major selling point. If they remove the lockable storage, the wings, and the ramp theee will be a lot of upset people. I suspect there was no reason to show the ramp in the patent application for the tailgate lift mechanism do they left it out.
He’s *wink wink* telling you that *nudge nudge* he’s got independent info *cough cough* that something is not included, and it rhymes with “trail prate framp”

brw, they way they describe it this mechanism can be used for the frunk, for the lockable storage, etc.
The design has changed. It’s all about trade offs. Not all of the changes will appeal to everyone. I’d personally rather have the side wall storage than 4 wheel steering.

Hopefully we get the specs sooner rather than later.

As much as I love the Sail Pillar Storage, I’d rather have 4WS myself. It’s just super practical.

Tesla Cybertruck Cybertruck Power Liftgate Patent Published -- operated by smart phone or wireless key fob 0DA18750-0DAB-4EA6-B922-E8AF74C42635

“SUMMARY [edited]

The system comprises an actuator for driving the closure panel between the open position and the closed position relative to the body and a counterweight member for reducing a mechanical effort provided by the actuator to drive the closure panel.

The method comprises extending a spindle of a linear actuator so as to rotate the tailgate towards a closed position, and releasing mechanical energy stored in a counterweight to assist the linear actuator rotating the tailgate towards the closed position.

The system comprises a linear actuator comprising a spindle and an outer tube, the spindle being movable between an extended position and a retracted position relative to the outer tube, the linear actuator being configured to drive the tailgate from the open position towards the closed position when the spindle moves from the retracted position to the extended position, a crank arm operatively linking the tailgate to the linear actuator, and a counterweight member disposed in the tailgate and configured to reduce a mechanical effort provided by the actuator to drive the tailgate to the closed position.

A variation of the aspect above is, wherein the counterweight member is a torsion spring configured to twist along its axis.

A variation of the aspect above is, wherein the counterweight member is a torsion rod configured to resist twisting and have a strong tendency to untwist.

A variation of the aspect above is, wherein the actuator moves between an extended configuration and a retracted configuration along a first axis, and wherein the counterweight member rotates about a second axis, the second axis being different than the first axis.

Torsion Bar assisted electric powered screwed actuators. Sounds like Optimus has left a hand in the tail gating tech dept... ?

I don't see any air lines in. And that seems to be for the flat and slanted position!

That would allow for the ramp position they had on stage.

*bounce* *bounce*

That was my favorite thing they showed at the unveil.

Yeah. More than likely electric over hydraulic/air.

I see a ramp with that design. The stop points of the piston seem to indicate two axial points - one at the OG Cybertruck's downcast position, and one at the standard level position.

I say the ramp is still there.

I could see using that ad a step, but you’re already so close to the top of the gate.
And you'll trip over the lift cable if you do.

If they do intend that as a step, there won't be a cable: you would definitely trip on it trying to use the step. Looks like the cable was just a convenience on the early prototypes and maybe they go with the powered gate plus ramp for production?

peered gate is likely to still have the cable stop

I’m not sure it’s a functional step anymore, in any event - aside from the cable, it appears to be only 2-3” deep, which is at best a toe-hold

not really a practical alternative to just stepping on the tailgate itself, which is only a few inches higher

Tailgate angle in the up possition matches the body lines and in the open position it's perpendicular to the ground.

Very detailed schematic for a patent. Safe to say this is already part of some version of what will come out.

Yup, it is also a step to get on as well. The sharp edge on the door however has given some people a few stitches.

I used the wrong word, I meant mid-gate. I would definitely pick having a full size mid-gate over automatic bed cover if there was a choice. It would be almost like having an SUV, a camper and a truck at the same time.
