The only problem I have seen so far is that there is no obvious room for a full size spare (throwing one in the bed does not count) . So unless the CT comes with those Airless tires we have been seeing ( which would be the only reason not to carry a spare in a work truck) or they have room in the frunk for one then this will never be a work truck.

LOL.. I get a flat just looking at a work site I had like 5 plugs in my right rear and 3 in my left rear ( I don't use the spare unless I have a blowout or a large hole but if you depend on your truck for work you don't have a couple hours to wait for a tow and if your already towing something then a spare is even more criticle.

Oh I completely understand there are use cases where a spare is required equipment. I do not, however, concur that there is no place to stow one.

I have carried a spare all my life and haven't had a flat in over 30 years.

In fact, I think the only flat I had was maybe 40 years ago.

The quality of tires has improved so much. Managing the exception is probably better than carting a tire.

However, I will travel with RV, in in the event of a flat maybe I will risk having to pay someone say a lot of money just to bring me a tire lol.

In the mean time, I will just have to camp and wait.. lol

Valid concern, but a personal concern. Knock on wood here but I’ve not had a flat tire since Christmas morning 2016 myself. I’d be curious to see what percentage of spaces are used on cars traded in/ sold. I have a full space under my Tacoma bed and it would be handy when needed, but just haven’t needed it so far after 120k miles. I get it though!

Waiting on Sail pillars or midgate opening?

I don’t think midgate is happening due to the tonneau cover retracting into that area. Yes, according to the patent it rolls up below the vehicle, but not completely. There’s still a section of it laying upright in the back wall, so the cover can deploy quickly.

The sail pillars could still be a thing, but they were weirdly not talked about back in 2019 (there was a slide showing them off) and then never shown again. I don’t see any seams in that area, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t be there. It was hard to see the way the frunk was going to open, so it’s possible they could still be a thing.

Regardless this thing is going to be a utilitarian beast. I can’t wait to see it on the roads. I wish they would come out with an entire Cyber lineup (Cyberhatch, Cybervan, etc.)

Re: Tires

If you have an onboard air compressor and no vengeful BF/GF who'd slash your tires, only one out of a million of us will need a spare. That number can be further reduced by maintaining correct air pressure, that eliminates most blowouts. Sidewall tears will be the only tire damage that will leave you stranded. Hitting curbs or massive pot holes at high speed can be avoided in most cases. Most sidewall damage will happen when rock crawling at very low tire pressures. I've never been put into a rock crawling situation unexpectedly, and when I have, I have planned ahead with a spare tire or two. I won't be driving around with several spares (or any actually) for 99.9% of my driving, but my bed may be full of them if I'm going to be enjoying the outdoors.

Which brings me to airless tires. Airless tires only have one "pressure" setting. You can't increase them to 90 psi when towing, then reduce them to 9 psi when off roading. If you think adding one or two spares to the bed of your truck is bad, imagine having to carry entire sets to handle different terrain!!! ? Thanks... but no thanks.

Where are you all getting actual wood to knock on? I thought the beauty of the CT was the stainless steel. Or are you currently driving a woody?

Remember that the tonneau makes a sharp ~270 degree turn at the top of the bed as it transitions from the back wall to the overhead area of the truck bed. No reason that the tonneau couldn't just fold right along with the back wall of the bed.

Now... Looking at the great pictures from yesterday with much clearer views, I don't really see anything to indicate that the midgate area has any folding involved. That might be an illusion. Or the truck Franz was driving might not have ALL the final features. Right now though my bet is that the midgate will not happen.

That’s true. I think there are so many prototypes being tested out there. What’s the downside of having a midgate? Does it weaken the structure of the truck, would the seals around it wear out and let water into the cab? If Tesla doesn’t have one on the Cybertruck the engineers would have had good reason to leave it off.
