It looks like Teslas purchase of Wiferion has been completed! Link to article

Imagine parking the CT at home everyday and not having to touch anything and it charges overnight by itself. I'ld like to see an ICE truck do that. It really is a game changer. Lets face it, we all are fairly lazy deep down and if we can avoid having to plug in it would be great. I scanned their website and it looks like they have a 12kW solution, which isnt huge but it would meet 99% of peoples needs for overnight charging.

I like the idea. But what about efficiency? How much $$ are we throwing out just to be a little lazier? Both in the cost of a device like this and in the efficiency lost because it's wireless.

Sounds dumb. Of all the places wireless charging would make sense it wouldn't be at home in your garage. Cost and efficiency would be detrimental. If anything it would be good for cars parked on the street that can't otherwise be charged.

You’re assuming wireless will have high inefficiency…?

MIT invented the original system as far as l know, and licenced their design to BMW and Honda for their evaluation. The losses were in the low percentage from recall, so they'd be surprisingly efficient.

Edit: WiTricity is the MIT spin-off as the research shows. Looks like we're heading down this road. I had forecast this about ten years ago as a dreamer(!)

In comparison to a plug in contact yes. I had a quick look at their website and they seem to be "improving" their efficiency by including externalities into the equation, like grid losses etc or switching losses, that some plug in chargers just don't have. For example I'd like to see them compete with a DC charger that comes straight from my off-grid solar MPPT.

After some exhaustive research, I believe Wiferion has achieved 93% efficiency for wireless charging. Finally, we can put to rest our relentless wondering.

Nikolai Tesla, the manufactures namesake, already had wireless energy transfer in the early 1900's.
FBI confiscated all his tech, and now they'll claim it's part of the UAP discoveries that happened after. They've just been sitting on it themselves and keeping us "in the dark".

Do you actually have that set up? What EVSE are you using to do that? Or just speaking theoretically?

And the lead scientist? Who confiscated his paperwork after his death, I read, was Trumps uncle.

Cue twilight zone music.

Nikolai Tesla brought us into the LIGHT.
We all owe our thanks.

You always have to start somewhere and then where it doesn't continue or it improves until you have an effective and robust solution! Wait and see! ;) ?
