To be fare. The pollution issues has alot to do with how the city is located in a basin with mountains all around it, trapping all the nasty stuff. When the Santa Ana kicks up, can either illeviate or exacerbate the issue. I like to remember Cali in the enclosed picture taken on a hill behind my house. That year (2008), only 19 days out of the year where I can see Mt Baldy on the left and Arrowhead springs on the right, sigh...

Picture1.jpg
And the layout of the terrain traps mostly… (wait for it) dust and moisture as reductions to visibility. Which is why the Santa Ana winds clear things out so well. It blows dry air from the desert into the basin and without the moisture, instant unlimited visibility. It‘s why we have “the marine layer” as a major catalyst of our weather. And “June Gloom”.

Were things worse in the 60’s? Yep. Did it kill everyone? Nope. Do people who grew up here have significantly higher rates of lung cancer when compared to the rest of the nation, Nope. Asthma? Nope. COPD? Nope. Second hand smoke kills far more people annually than the environmental issues of just about anywhere in this country.

I think living by or near the coast makes a world of difference. I used to live in Fontucky for years. The story is different there.
And I lived in Rialto, and Alta Loma, and Upland, and Ontario. I did 15 years in the IE. And 10 years in Cerritos and Anaheim. Life hasn’t always allowed me to live by the coast.

Fontana was worse when the Kaiser steel plant was operating. But now, not so much. I’ll give you that Kaiser wasn’t the best of neighbors to have in the 60’s.

Of course, why I called it an "anecdote"...

But hey, if you're a woodworker, we can hang,.

Here's my blog and YouTube:

I’ll subscribe to the channel! I spend all my spare time on furniture orders these days. I’ll be in touch, I want to order a Martin kit and build it with my Dad (guitar player extraordinaire!) while I still have him to build with.
Tesla Cybertruck Cybertruck bed vault lighting is so clean (clearest photo yet) IMG_2808

Am really hoping that there’s a roll down rear window option, factory or aftermarket. I have two big dogs that I want to put in the vault when we take road trips, but if they can’t get even a little bit of heat or A/C in the vault and if I can’t hear them then it’ll be a problem. Could be a deal breaker for me

it’ll be a cool feature on the spaceship ?

aside from the change in bed materials (it’s now smooth finished rather than grained), change in bulkhead design (sill is now sloped, which makes sense from a run-off perspective), etc:

this photo makes clearer that the forward 2/3 of the bed floor is a removable service hatch - to access the motors, compressor, bottle, etc.

I too would love to have pass-through but judging by these photos of the body structure...hmm, unlikely, I'm afraid...

It's it possible these images were a fake/plant to get people to think the passthrough wasn't happening?

The rolling bed cover pretty much ensures that there will be no passthrough and no rear window that goes down.

There are too many safety issues that rolling cover creates

that’s the thing

I don’t think there is much of any added utility for camping

First, I don’t think many are going to be willing to sleep in this vault. It’s 6’1” only at the bed floor, with bulkhead sloping forward. Anyone near 6’ going to fit comfortably only diagonally,~solo. And, vault closed, it’s going to be like a coffin. Not saying no one would, but it’ll be unattractive space for most.

Second, the window rolling down does almost nothing to improve the space. It was always a niece dream to think that rolling down that rear window could materially condition heat/cool the vault. Take one ride in a truck without rear seat vents and that’ll prove out.

I could go on and elaborate, but ultimately many of the ideas floating around would meet a reality that - if nothing else, Tesla would be very unlikely to *advertise* as a meaningful use-case.

And for those still insisting on these use cases, there’ll be aftermarket solutions to address these things. Replacement rear windows with sliders and attachable vent fans, pop-ups, etc.

None of this is to say there’s be zero utility. Instead that there would be low utility, and people dying to do it will have other options than Tesla building it into every unit to come off the assembly line.
I'm much more simple. I would like a roll-down rear window because in my experience driving truck shaped trucks, opening the rear window helps limit buffeting and helps direct wind so it's not all in your face. That may not be the case in the Cybertruck but having the option to shape wind patterns for those of us who actually like having open windows is a good thing.
