Nor does that look like it’s 3mm… You called it.Well ain't than dandy!
Looks like they only have pretty dainty mounting brackets, and nothing much to connect it to the rear cast either, so unlikely to carry much load by the looks of it. Now if someone could flip it over so we could see the back please.
Technically, the monocoque/unibody still exists under the stainless skin, as the cabin, casts and structural battery, but it seems the skin isn't used structurally as was first thought. When the decision to go with front and rear castings was made, the monocoque body idea was abandoned, and along with it the 3mm stainless exterior. The castings provide all the structural strength needed, and the combined weight of casting and 3mm stainless was too high. Am I disappointed? Maybe a little, but it won't change my purchase decision.
was going to make a joke about "mm => micrometers" in elon speak, but looking at the photo more carefully, this looks like a pretty thick panel at least from this angleNor does that look like it’s 3mm… You called it.
Ok… so let’s put this up to what ever you are driving now and see which one fears out better…. Oh and did you happen to catch a glimpse of the roll over shots or front end crash test… just saying….I see we went from stopping bullets, to stopping nothing.
The crash test pix seem to disagree with your opinion. The stainless panels all seem to fare quite well. You have made it your life’s work to thrash the ‘exoskeleton’ notion, and it now appears that the ‘current’ design is a super-strong unibody, but I happen to believe that these panels will be ‘much’ stronger than the skin on any other unibody vehicle.Well ain't than dandy!

Nothing? Surely it will stop something.I see we went from stopping bullets, to stopping nothing.
