Honestly they should just cancel these people’s reservations and refund them their $100. In the future Tesla should add to their fine print that if you attempt to sell your place in line then you don’t get your deposit back and you’re subject to anti-scalping laws. Maybe put a 1-year clause in there for attempting to mark up and resell a brand new vehicle.

Hmm, would 1 year be enough? Then early reservation holders could drive their truck for a while and still get a pretty price a year later and they would not be attacked on this forum for re-selling it, right?!

Tough crowd here. How about Tesla adds this fine print, "If you demonize early reservation holders, all your reservations will be cancelled and you will be fined $1,000".

The question is, how long does one need to own their Cybertruck to avoid being called a filthy dirty scalper in this forum? A month, a year? Please pick one so we can move beyond this scalping vitriol. If you waited too long to make an early reservation, accept it. And celebrate the fact that you/we will all eventually get the most awesome vehicle ever.

I think a year is a sufficient amount of time to know if you want to keep something or not. Shorter than a lease, longer than someone turning around and flipping something just for profit.

I made a reservation right after the launch event. The website kept crashing and the next morning I had 5 reservations between 11275xxxx and 11277xxxx. Kept them all even though I am only planning ot take delivery on 1 or 2. I wonder how many other people are in that same situation?

Doesn't matter. I've got mine and according to their calculation I'm number 4,793,872 out of 750,000. F*CK 'em! I've had it with all the Bull $hit. You are welcome to my place in line. ;-)

So there shouldn't be early adopters?
People who didn't have to let it "grow on them" before they reserved?
How many late reservations are allowed to resell their vehicle?
Is it only fair to sell if it's at or below cost?
Apparently the only people who can have an early reservation are those that got in late and can't wait. Costs $0 extra to wait for your place in line and buy your truck. Capitalism gonna capitalism, if you didn't have $100 opening night you shouldn't buy one in the first place.
The same people are mad at people that bought Tesla stock at $12 and would like them to sell it to late adopters at $12. Grow up.

Same thing for me but I ended up with 2 reservations. Like an idiot, I canceled one the same night.

Not everything in the world needs to be arbitrage, a market.

Allowing trading of reservations (and spots in line) puts the whole idea of having reservations at all into risk. It's supposed to be a way to find people who want the truck. If it becomes some tulip bubble, then it completely fails at its primary goal of finding the number of trucks that they can build and sell.

“Scalpers” and “Resellers” have ruined the concert business. Presales to fan groups, resale sites, and other ideas are trying to fight back, but in the end, they still lose.

When you think about it. Auto dealers are no different than scalpers. They buy cars before you can, and sell them to you at a profit. If it is a new release, they buy it and add an additional mark up to scalp you and maximize on the lack of availability. It’s just that the OEMs set the table for them. I think this is one of the reasons that people that like Tesla’s sales model, hate scalpers and resellers so much. Most of us are “anti-dealership”.
