You're kidding right??
They're going to make the whole thing out of transparent aluminium so they can call it a exoskeleton and expose all the exo deniers. Like an aquarium full of old crabs. ;)
Wait... I don't want crabs. I'm going to have to cancel my preorder. I was already a little iffy seeing the transparency because I'd hate to wake up and see someone staring at me through the wall. On the other hand, maybe it would enable something like this:

Is this a dual motor version or single motor? Doesn’t seem like awd

It's the $29,990 Front Wheel Drive version that Elon was going to "One other thing" at the reveal event had Franz not busted the winders. ?

Would make a pretty cool static display model though........... Replace the steel with something transparent.......

That makes this huge, and has way more area than I allowed for in my calculations. Probably enough space for around 160kWh in a single layer.

I don't think we will need a dual layer pack for LR anymore.
And so now your reasoning leads to the inverse conclusion:

Just want to say this graphic is all kinds of inaccurate compared to the truck today.
I want to point out this is the 2019 model render.
Could ~explain, if in part, why in 2019 they came up with their range aspirations

then that plan ran into engineering /packaging limitations

smaller structural pack, means lower…

Have we got a picture of the CT penthouse in the rear?

I can't see the cast at all? That's the rear motor subframe, that attaches underneath?

Control arms I'd have to check.
The tonneau assembly sits directly over the penthouse. The air tank as well although a little more to the rear. I don’t think a picture has been taken of this area yet. I can’t/won’t post a picture, for obvious reasons.

I’m talking about the rear subframe “arch” looking piece. Looks like it bolts on at the ends. That’s all 1 piece cast now that can be easily seen in the scrap body pic that recently was photographed by drone.

Possibly.

Has anyone seen a CT battery pack or photo?

We could try to find some clues of that how they compare.

Btw, my space requirements limit of 140kWh were of my own making, in that I assumed they would not go beyond the wheelwells, and would stay out of the vault roll area. Also the sidewall buffer space could also be shrunk, from the dimensions that the MY 4680 pack used, giving a bit more there too. I don't know what the constraints are for that either.
I'm unaware of any CT battery images or dimensions though, bar playing around with my own CAD model of CT.

But in saying all that, it doesn't mean a smaller one won't fit, just that a large single cell high one is less limited than at least I originally thought.

sorry, I’m only pointing out that this ‘X-ray’ doesn’t tell you anything reliable about the pack size or arrangement in a real CT. It was a ~hypothetical sketch, which we know has now been scrapped.

Think you’re just back to your original drawing board

Maybe I missed it, maybe I just got confused with high school magazine memories...

What area are you referring to as the penthouse? what is the significance of the penthouse?

Thanks.

Right.

I'm surprised there's enough height to fit the penthouse on the pack and have the vault roll on top of that, and it's all still under the bed height. I suppose a quater of the vault is in the midgate bulkhead so the roll is a bit smaller.

More cast and less subframe is obviously reducing part count. So the rear motor housing just bolts straight in with some bushes I suppose?

Compressor tank is sort of interesting in that hollow section, maybe it's a structural member there too?

The different perspectives of the scrap CT really help give it a third dimension to see what's going on inside.

not ideal vantage, but:

as the pack is below floorboard of the cabin (yellow line), there’s quite a big of room above it before at vault floor level

Well I'm still thinking it's less confined than I first thought.

If as described before, the penthouse is under the vault cover behind the midgate bulkhead then the pack has already more room than I thought.

I'll see if I can do some mock-up packs for under my old CAD when I get home. I already have a scaled MS pack in the model, and that leaves out bit of the floor.

Penthouse is what they call the "hump" on top of the battery, where all the pack terminations are etc. Apparently, it was first in the front, but is now in the back behind the rear cabin bulkhead (midgate bit). Current Teslas have it hiding under the rear seat.

It does look like there is some space there. I might of just overestimated the size of the vault roll. I haven't modelled that part. Is the pack really that low and under the yellow line? Because that would be good for the rear seat height too.
