If the cover for the storage compartment flips all the way forward, I wonder if you couldn't drop the front wheels of two fully assembled bicycles down in there, with the handlebars perpendicular to the tailgate so that the vault cover could close. You might just have to drop the seat posts, easy if you have a dropper style seatpost. Rear tires would go against the back of the cab..

I'm trying to envision a scenario when you would WANT to open the trap door without dropping the tailgate first. I can't think of one, it would be very awkward at best.

Well, I just want to get into that storage area without having to lean over the open tailgate (I'm only average height!).

PS. I saying this with a slightly stiff lower back after a weekend of standing and slightly leaning over a wood splitter........ it adds up!
